Chapter 24: A Ruthless Play

Isabella sat across from Thomas Everton, the CEO of Everton Maritime, in an exclusive rooftop restaurant overlooking the city skyline.

The deal was almost done. Almost.

"You're making a bold offer, Ms. Carter," Everton said, swirling his wine. "Blackwood Enterprises has been a reliable partner for years. Why should I risk that stability?"

Isabella leaned forward, her confidence unwavering. "Because Blackwood treats you like a number on a spreadsheet. I treat you like a partner."

She slid a file across the table.

"Blackwood raised your rates last quarter, cut priority shipments, and ignored your expansion requests," she continued. "You deserve better. Carter Consulting guarantees lower rates, priority services, and a long-term growth plan tailored to your needs."

Everton studied the file, intrigued.

Isabella could see it in his eyes—he was considering it.

And then, her phone buzzed.

A message from Claire.

"Blackwood is moving. Brace yourself."

Blackwood's Counterattack

Alexander stepped into Everton Maritime's headquarters before Isabella even left her meeting.

His presence alone was enough to put the executives on edge. He was here to remind them exactly who they were dealing with.

Everton's CFO, Mark Hastings, greeted him nervously. "Mr. Blackwood, we weren't expecting you—"

Alexander gave him a cold smile. "I'm sure you weren't."

He sat down, fixing Hastings with a sharp gaze. "I understand Isabella Carter is making an offer."

Hastings hesitated. "It's… compelling."

Alexander's smirk didn't falter. "Then let me be clear—Everton Maritime doesn't need Carter Consulting. Because if they take her deal, Blackwood Enterprises will ensure they never do business in this city again."

Hastings paled. "Are you… threatening us?"

Alexander leaned back, perfectly composed. "No. I'm just reminding you that loyalty matters. And that Blackwood Enterprises rewards those who stay… and buries those who don't."

Hastings swallowed hard. "I—I'll speak with Thomas."

Alexander nodded. "You do that."

As he walked out, he checked his watch.

Isabella thought she had won.

She had no idea what was coming.
