The warehouse was eerily silent now, the echoes of gunfire fading into the early morning haze. Carver had been taken away, his empire crumbling just like Langston's before him.
But Isabella knew better than to celebrate. One war always led to another.
She stood near the open bay doors, watching as Damian and Claire finished securing the scene. It felt… different.
Not like before, when every victory had been fueled by revenge.
This time, it was about control about stopping something before it became worse.
Unfinished Business
Alexander approached, his shirt streaked with dust and blood not his, thankfully.
"You're quiet," he noted, watching her carefully.
She sighed, rolling her shoulders. "Just thinking."
"About what?"
She turned to him, expression unreadable. "What comes next."
Because there was always a next.
Langston had fallen. Carver had been stopped. But the city still hung in the balance, waiting to see who would rise from the ashes.
Damian joined them, hands in his pockets. "We did good tonight," he said. "But this isn't over."
"I know." Isabella exhaled. "Someone's going to fill the void."
Claire walked up, arms crossed. "Then we make sure it's the right someone."
Ethan, ever the wildcard, smirked. "Or, we just don't let anyone take the throne at all."
Damian chuckled. "That's ambitious."
Isabella tilted her head. Was it?
Because for the first time, she wasn't just reacting. She was planning.
And she wasn't about to let another monster take power.
A New Kind of Fight
She turned to Alexander. "What if we do something different?"
He raised a brow. "Like what?"
She glanced at the others, her mind racing. They'd spent years tearing apart corrupt men. Maybe it was time to build something instead.
Not a kingdom. Not an empire. Something better.
"I think it's time we stopped fighting for the past," she said. "And started fighting for the future."
Damian smirked. Claire nodded. Ethan grinned.
And Alexander?
He just looked at her like he'd known all along she would say that.
Isabella took one last look at the wreckage of the warehouse before turning away.
It was time to change the game.
