The Edge of Darkness
The scent of ash and blood still lingered in the air.
The warriors of Nightfall had returned, but there was no celebration, no moment of respite. Their preemptive strike had weakened Kael's forces, but they had not won the war.
And now, they had only three nights before hell descended upon them.
Aria stood in Alexander's office, her body still aching from the battle. Across from her, Lyra paced, her silver eyes clouded with thought.
"You faced a Nyxfiend," Lyra murmured. "And it nearly stole your power."
Aria clenched her fists. "Yes."
Alexander's gaze flickered to her, something sharp and unreadable in his golden eyes. He had been there. He had seen how the creature almost consumed her.
Lyra stopped pacing. "This changes everything."
Elias, who had been silent until now, crossed his arms. "How?"
Lyra exhaled, turning to Alexander. "You don't understand what this means, do you?"
