Chapter 26 – Awakening the Lunar Flame

The world tilted beneath my feet. My thoughts spun in a chaotic whirlwind, but there was no time to process everything I had just discovered—chaos reigned around us, raw and unrelenting. Luca and Ethan, bruised and bloodied, still fought with everything they had, their bodies taut with determination.

And then there was the Echo, lurking at the forest's edge like a shadow given life, waiting for the perfect moment to strike again.

A wild, unfamiliar heat coursed through my veins, electric and volatile. It wasn't just adrenaline; it was something foreign—a force that felt both fragile and indomitable. I could conquer the world or collapse with one wrong move. Worse, I felt connected—to Luca, to Ethan, even to the very ground beneath my feet. The sun and moon above throbbed in sync with my pulse, an ancient rhythm that demanded action.

But I had no idea where to start.

Ethan's voice snapped me back to reality. "Quinn, move!"

His eyes flashed gold as he shifted back to human form, sweat glistening on his skin. His gaze was fierce, unyielding—and locked on me. Panic clawed at my chest, but I shoved it down. The Echo growled low, its presence dark and menacing, creeping closer with every breath. My hands shook, and the power inside me roared, desperate to be unleashed.

But fear gripped me tighter.

I didn't know how to use this power. I didn't know how to stop the Echo.

But I didn't have a choice.

The creature lunged.

Instinct took over. I raised my hand, and a blinding burst of light exploded from my palm. It wasn't calculated or controlled—it was raw, desperate power unleashed by sheer survival instinct. The blast struck the Echo mid-air, and the creature let out a pained, otherworldly screech.

My knees buckled as I stumbled back, vision swimming. The blast had drained me, leaving my muscles weak and trembling. But it had worked—sort of. The Echo flickered, its form shuddering like a flame caught in the wind.

Ethan's voice was a ragged whisper. "Quinn… what the hell was that?"

I blinked, dazed. "I don't know. I just—reacted."

But the Echo wasn't done. Its growl deepened, more feral, eyes gleaming with rage. I had injured it, but not enough to bring it down.

Luca, still in his wolf form, darted forward without hesitation. He was a blur of raw power, fur bristling and muscles taut. I'd never seen him like this—unrestrained, wild, magnificent. And suddenly, I knew. That connection between us had always been there, simmering beneath the surface.

Lycan had been Luca all along.

The realization hit hard, but there was no time to dwell on it. The Echo was darting between Luca and Ethan, moving too fast for my eyes to track. But I could see it now—its weakness. The light.

"Luca, Ethan, get back!" I shouted, surprised at the steadiness in my own voice.

They hesitated for a split second, then sprang back just as the Echo lunged again. My heart raced as I raised both hands, focusing on the strange, wild energy swirling inside me. I didn't know if it would work, but I had to try.

"Please," I whispered, and then I let the power explode out of me.

Blinding light seared through the darkness of the Echo with full force. The creature let out a piercing, guttural screech as its form twisted and disintegrated, smoke and shadow unraveling into the air. I felt its fear, its desperation as it struggled to hold itself together.

The Echo's form flickered, turning darker, more sinister. Its glowing eyes burned with hatred as it hovered before me. A crushing weight settled over my chest, making it hard to breathe. The curse. I could feel it now, choking me, wrapping around my very soul.

The Echo hissed, venom dripping from its voice. "You think you can outrun your fate, girl? You are still mine. The curse is too deep, too strong. And soon… it will claim you."

And then, just like that, it was gone.

Silence descended over the forest. The only sound was the ragged gasps of our breathing. I dropped to my knees, trembling. The power inside me was still there, but it was weaker now, drained from the battle. My body felt like it had turned to jelly.

Ethan knelt be

side me, his voice gentle. "That was… incredible. Are you okay?"

I nodded, though it was a lie. "Yeah. I'm fine."

He stood, glancing around. "I'm going to check on Kimmy and Nick. I'll be back." He turned to Luca, who was still in his wolf form. "Stay here."

And then it was just us.

Luca stood a few feet away, his massive wolf form looming in the dim light. His eyes—those familiar, piercing eyes—were human again. They hadn't left me. For a moment, the cold, hard shell he always wore cracked, and I saw the man behind the beast.

The weight of everything pressed down on me. Luca. The protectiveness, the possessiveness—it all made sense now. He had been shielding me in the only way he knew how.

Suddenly, a voice echoed in my mind, clear and commanding.

"You're mine, Quinn."
