After leaving the office, Jaxon called Prince Wang Ziming. The call was quickly answered, and Wang Ziming invited him to join him for a meal at Kaillemen. Jaxon hesitated for a moment but eventually accepted the invitation. He was genuinely curious about why Wang Ziming had sought him out. As far as he knew, their circles didn't overlap in any significant way.
Returning to Kaillemen again, Jaxon felt differently this time. The first time he came, it felt like stepping into a whole new world. The second time, he was there to accompany Chloe, and it didn't leave much of an impression. Now, however, Kaillemen seemed no different from an ordinary restaurant to him. After all, the former head chef was now learning cooking skills from him. The place had lost its special allure.
Jaxon wondered if Manager Huang knew that Liu Yidao had gone to work for him after leaving. If he did know, Jaxon wasn't sure what he would think.
In the private room, Jaxon met Wang Ziming. As a regular customer, Kaillemen always reserved a private room for him, so no matter when he came, Wang Ziming always had a place to dine.
"Come and sit," Wang Ziming said, his tone neither overly enthusiastic nor condescending like Li Bing's.
"I wonder why Prince Wang wanted to see me today," Jaxon said casually as he sat down. Despite the gap in their social status, Jaxon didn't feel inferior. Thanks to the magical ring, he even believed his future accomplishments wouldn't fall short of those of Wang Ziming and his peers.
"There's nothing special," Wang Ziming replied, handing the menu to Jaxon. "I just wanted to get to know you and have a casual chat."
"I'll leave it to you, Prince Wang. I'm not particular about food," Jaxon said.
Wang Ziming didn't insist. He took the menu back and began ordering, then added, "I almost forgot that Mr. Jaxon is a culinary master. Even Chef Liu can't compare to you. I imagine you wouldn't have much interest in dishes made by others."
"It's not that," Jaxon replied. "I don't have high expectations for food. As long as I'm full, that's enough."
Indeed, Jaxon's life hadn't been easy in the past. For him, just having enough to eat was a blessing. Eating well was something he didn't dare to think about, let alone pursue.
"Mr. Jaxon's past life was indeed, how should I put it, quite simple," Wang Ziming said.
"Prince Wang seems to have done some investigating into me," Jaxon remarked, taking a sip of tea.
"I did inquire about you, but I was acting on behalf of someone else," Wang Ziming admitted without hesitation.
"Oh? I'm just an ordinary person. Why would anyone take an interest in me? On the street, nine out of ten people are just like me," Jaxon said.
"Who's interested isn't the point," Wang Ziming said. "What's important is that I've noticed you've changed quite a bit recently. Quite a lot, actually."
Jaxon's heart skipped a beat, but he kept his expression calm. "What kind of changes?"
"Your culinary skills and your new role as a teacher at Goldenleaf University," Wang Ziming said. "From my investigation, I found that you suddenly acquired such excellent culinary skills and became a teacher at Goldenleaf University. These aren't achievements that an ordinary person can just stumble upon."
"Prince Wang has investigated me quite thoroughly," Jaxon's heart sank slightly.
Jaxon didn't know who had asked Wang Ziming to investigate him, and he wasn't sure whether they knew about his sale of rosewood. Fortunately, he hadn't impulsively sold too much at once. If someone investigated him and discovered it, it could raise suspicions. If the person investigating him had no ill intentions, it wouldn't be a problem. But if they did have ill intentions, Jaxon would be in trouble.
However, anyone capable of investigating him secretly likely didn't have good intentions.
"Actually, none of this is a big deal, and I don't plan to dig too deep into it," Wang Ziming said, noticing Jaxon's reluctance to talk about these matters. "I'm curious, but everyone has their secrets."
Jaxon nodded but remained silent, his vigilance still intact.
"You don't have to worry. I have no ill intentions towards you," Wang Ziming said, sensing Jaxon's caution. "But I can't say the same for others."
"Prince Wang means someone might have ill intentions toward me and could take action? Can you tell me why?" Jaxon asked, his tone sharp.
"Because of Chloe!" Wang Ziming said. "Actually, you could avoid a lot of unnecessary trouble if you know when to back off."
"Chloe?" Jaxon's mind conjured up Chloe's ethereal image. He seemed to understand who had asked Wang Ziming to investigate him. Only one person could have the means and motive: "Was it Kong Hailin who asked you to investigate?"
Wang Ziming nodded without denying it. "Kong Hailin has been pursuing Chloe for a while. I know there's nothing between you and Chloe, and that you're from different worlds. However, you should still keep some distance from her. That way, Young Master Kong won't misunderstand you."
Wang Ziming didn't believe there was any relationship between Jaxon and Chloe. Although he didn't know Chloe's background fully, he knew that Kong Hailin had been pursuing her for so long without success. He had even followed her to Goldenleaf. That made it clear that Chloe's identity was anything but simple. She wasn't someone an ordinary person like Jaxon could have.
Even with Jaxon's sudden rise in culinary skill and his new position as a teacher at Goldenleaf University, he was still, at the end of the day, just an ordinary person.
As Jaxon had guessed, it was indeed Kong Hailin who had initiated the investigation.
Jaxon hadn't expected Kong Hailin to act so quickly. Recalling Kong Hailin's demeanor that day, Jaxon was surprised by his speed but not shocked.
"There's indeed nothing between Chloe and me," Jaxon said. "And I'm not saying this because I'm afraid of anyone."
"I believe you," Wang Ziming said, genuinely convinced that there was no relationship between Jaxon and Chloe.
But Jaxon wasn't finished speaking.
"I also won't distance myself from Chloe just because I'm afraid of someone," Jaxon added.
These words caused Wang Ziming to frown slightly.
The meaning behind Jaxon's statement was clear: no matter what his relationship with Chloe was now, it would stay the same in the future. He wouldn't change his stance or deliberately avoid her just because of Kong Hailin's investigation or Wang Ziming's warning.
It seemed Jaxon was the type of person who wouldn't back down until he hit a brick wall.
