Chapter 9

My tears fell in big drops as Rylan's body began to tremble uncontrollably.

He frantically searched his pockets, pulling out the charm I had given him two days ago and cradling it in his palm.

"Britta, you love me, don't you?"

"The abbot in Tibet told me, this charm was something you got by kowtowing every three steps for a day and a night. You love me, don't you?"

"Forgive me this once, please, please Britta..."

I didn't want to hear any more. I snatched the charm and stomped on it viciously.

"Shut up! You don't deserve it! You don't deserve my love! Every word you say now makes me sick!"

"Forgive you? Will forgiving you bring my parents back? What right do you have to ask for forgiveness?"

Rylan stared intently at my foot, his lips quivering for a long time before softly uttering three words.

"I'm sorry..."

Those three words made me laugh.

"Sorry? Then kill Lily, use her life and your own to apologize to me, then I'll consider forgiving you."
