Seeing her bewildered expression, I smiled sarcastically. Of course, she'd forgotten.
All these years, Sarah never seemed to remember my birthday.
She often said that between an old married couple, there's no need for those cumbersome rituals. Just being together is the best gift.
Looking at the sea of roses around us, and the priceless watch on Kellan's wrist, I suddenly felt like a clown.
Sarah looked a bit remorseful and tried to take my hand to explain, but Kellan suddenly grabbed her, whining:
"Vivienne, my stomach hurts a little. I wonder if the incision hasn't healed well."
What kind of incision wouldn't heal after six years?
But Sarah was extremely worried and quickly moved to support Kellan:
"How can this be? You were fine just now. Is your shirt too tight? I told you you'd be the most handsome even in a potato sack, but you never listen."
Then she turned to me and said:
"Chris, you sit here for a bit. Kellan's not feeling well, I need to take care of him."
With that, she helped Kellan up to the presidential suite upstairs.
Leaving me to face everyone's contempt.
"Some people might think that marrying Ms.Mr. Winters really is the CEO husband now, isn't he? Everyone knows Ms. Winters only has eyes for Kellan. If Chloe hadn't beaten you to it, what chance would a weakling like you have had?"
"Get lost already. All those roses can't cover up the stench of your bullshit. Stop poisoning the air for everyone else. I don't know why you even bother living."
I clutched the divorce papers in my pocket, saying nothing as I turned to head upstairs.
When I reached the suite, I found the door ajar.
Kellan and Sarah's bodies were intertwined on the couch.
Sarah clung to his neck, her dress hiked up, her eyes hazy with desire.
"Vivienne, isn't her skin so fair and smooth? Did it really leave any scars?"
"Kellan, we shouldn't... You're married now, I can't..."
"Vivienne, everything you've done for me, I keep it close to my heart. Even though I married someone else, I want to give myself to you. I'm your rose, tonight. Won't you pluck me to your heart's content?"
He unbuttoned Sarah's blouse and kissed the tattoo.
Sarah trembled all over, unable to resist any longer, and passionately kissed him back.I never knew that Sarah, always so cool and composed, had such a wild side - and for another man, no less.
After recording everything, I couldn't bear to watch anymore and fled in a panic.
Sitting at the hotel entrance, I could still hear the laughter coming from inside.
Except now, all that merriment had nothing to do with me.
A bucket of putrid slop was dumped over my head, making me shiver in the frigid night air.
"Here's a bucket of garbage for you, Chris. It should cover up that shit smell of yours nicely. No need to thank me."
Kellan suddenly appeared, toying with a dinner knife.
"So, how was it? Pretty exciting to watch Vivienne and me going at it, huh? Since you gave me both your kidneys, I won't charge you for the show this time."
So he had intentionally called me to witness it.
"I didn't give them to you - you tricked and stole them from me!" I said coldly.
Kellan scoffed and shrugged.
"So what? Trash like you is born to serve rich folks like us. Never mind your two kidneys - Vivienne wouldn't hesitate to let you die if it made me happy. Because I'm the man she truly loves."
"Not so fast, Chris. You're thicker-skinned than I thought, daring to marry Vivienne. Trying to steal her affection from me? Keep dreaming. Your fiancée, your darling, your father's life, even your two kidneys - if I want them, they're mine for the taking."
"Don't believe me? Remember when I faked that stomachache, saying I was worried one kidney wouldn't be enough? Vivienne didn't hesitate to take your last kidney, leaving your father to die in agony."
