Chapter 6

A cold laugh escapes from my throat.

I forcefully pull my hand away and speak coldly.

"No need. How can your 'pure love' come back to share your bed if I'm here?"

Krista's face turns ugly.

"Marvin, if you're sick, go to the hospital. Palmer is at least still your brother. Don't just open your mouth and slander him."

Krista's words are light, but they feel like a thousand-pound rock, crushing the air out of my lungs.

I clench my fist until it makes a cracking sound, my gaze fixed on her eyes.

"How can a bastard be worthy of being my brother?"

Krista is choked by my words. It's not until I walk out of the bedroom that I hear her angry rebuke from behind:

"Marvin, don't forget, you have a criminal record. Where do you think you can go without me?"

I don't respond to her. I find a random hotel outside to stay in.

My card has been frozen by Krista, and I don't have much cash on me. Because of my criminal record, I can't find a job.
