Chapter 4

Then Palmer posted an update on his social media.

He and Krista were kissing through playing cards, their eyes filled with happiness.

The caption read:

[My lucky number for the new year is 147.]

Below the post, he thoughtfully included the detailed address of the karaoke bar.

My heart raced wildly, anger consuming me like a beast as I rushed to the private room where Krista was chatting away with her girlfriends.

"Krista, how did you know Marvin would definitely apologize to Palmer?"

Krista swirled the wine glass in her hand, her words brimming with confidence.

"Because he wants to marry me."

Felicity jokingly flattered her:

"If you marry him, what about Marvin?"

"He's the one eager to marry me, but I never promised I'd definitely marry him."

"I knew it. How could a man who's been to prison possibly be good enough for Krista?"

As rage boiled inside me, I was about to push open the door when suddenly Palmer's voice came from behind.

"147, long time no see."

Palmer stood with his arms crossed, looking me up and down with contempt.

"You must be really afraid you can't find a woman to marry if you're so eager to come apologize to me."

I stared at him expressionlessly, "I do indeed owe you an apology."He smirked smugly, the bruise on his cheek particularly noticeable.

I let out a cold laugh and glared at him fiercely. "You really should apologize to me."

Palmer shrugged it off, his grin growing even more smug. "I don't follow. What exactly am I supposed to be apologizing for?"

He had time to play dumb, but I wasn't in the mood to humor his act. "You stole my account credentials to leak Riverdale's confidential information, didn't you?"

"Who did it doesn't matter. What matters is who Krista believes."

"And Krista believing you proves what exactly? That you're a good actor?"

Hearing my words, Palmer suddenly burst out laughing, his eyes filled with contempt. Tired of this game, I turned to leave, but he suddenly grabbed my arm.

Confused, I watched as he glanced around to make sure no one was nearby. He leaned in close and lowered his voice:

"You know damn well whether it's my acting skills or Krista's favoritism. Yeah, I stole the data, but are you suggesting I deleted the security footage too?"

"I don't have that kind of access."

A bolt of lightning struck in my mind, and I froze.

Palmer could have stolen my password for the work computer, but the security footage was always stored on my personal computer. And only Krista had access to the company's surveillance system."I will not say anything. The lady has everything under control."

"I, Palmer, hate it when people covet my things, if you don't know how to die, I don't mind sending you in again."

"Right.' Suddenly, he remembered something and looked at me with a funny face, 'You still don't know, your mother is dead."

"She died on New Year's Eve last year, but unfortunately Krista was too busy with me to take care of that old woman, you don't know how pitiful her death was, I was heartbroken."

After saying that, he laughed out loud, as if he was telling the world's funniest joke.

Looking at his cheap expression, I couldn't stand it anymore and raised my fist.

This time, Palmer learnt to be smart, he slammed the door, fell on the ground, his mouth kept shouting for help.

Krista immediately bounced up from the sofa, jogging forward, with the waiter to pull me up from the Palmer body.

"Is this how you apologise?"

Palmer shrank back, frowning as he hid behind Wen Lime.

"Krista, Marvin is crazy, I was kind enough to greet him, but he suddenly became ill and pounced on me to kill me."

Krista was convinced of his words and stared at me with disgust, "If you don't want to apologise, get lost, don't go crazy here and make a fool of yourself!"

She pushed me to stagger, and then raised her palm in anger.

I tugged at the corner of my mouth, looking at her with disappointment. "Why didn't you tell me my mom passed away?"

A flash of guilt crossed Krista's face, but it vanished in an instant, quickly replaced by cold indifference.

"Would telling you bring your mom back to life?"

My heart suddenly felt torn in two, the pain piercing to its core.

After careful consideration, she withdrew her hand and softened her tone.

"Instead of obsessing over things you can't change all day, you'd be better off apologizing to Palmer soon. I'll still keep my promise to marry you."
