After treating the 25th patient, Gavin and Fang Ping step into the carriage.
Fang Ping says, "Let's check on Lou Xi."
Gavin, his face pale from expending internal energy, replies, "I'll rest for a while."
Fang Ping nods and instructs the driver, "Take us to the nearest herb center."
As the carriage moves, Fang Ping glances at Gavin. "Thank you for today."
Gavin sighs. "I only wish I could save more people."
Fang Ping shakes his head. "Brother Gavin, you've already done more than anyone else. I, on the other hand, am powerless."
"This is only possible because of my internal skill," Gavin says.
"I always thought martial artists were only good at fighting," Fang Ping admits. "But watching you heal people today... it was astonishing."
Gavin responds simply, "It all depends on the person," then closes his eyes, entering his spiritual space.
Healing 25 people hadn't actually drained much of his energy—his reserves replenished after each treatment. He was only pretending to be exhausted in front of Fang Ping.
From his studies of this world, Gavin had learned that the city's people recently started believing in unknown gods. The so-called "gods" were ancestors who had made great contributions to society and were later revered.
He saw an opportunity. If he presented himself as a benevolent doctor willing to risk his life to heal the sick, he could establish his image as a revered figure.
Through his altar, he could already sense a faint power of faith forming from the 25 people he had healed. Though their belief was shallow now, it would deepen if they fully recovered through his methods.
It was only the first day, so the power of faith he gained was minimal. But once he eradicated the plague, he estimated that 80% of the city's population would believe in him to some extent. From there, belief in him would spread to the surrounding areas.
However, to ensure his influence remained even after he left, he needed an anchor—something that would keep his name alive in the city and beyond.
His research showed that martial arts sects in this world often outlasted dynasties. Some had endured for centuries.
His plan was clear: he would establish a sect, but not one focused on combat. Instead, his disciples would be the doctors of this world.
His first target was Fang Ping—a respected, young doctor. If Fang Ping joined, it would be much easier to attract others.
From inside the carriage, they hear shouting outside and feel the carriage come to a stop.
With his eyes still closed, Gavin hears Fang Ping ask the driver, "What happened?"
"The city guard has surrounded the herb center," the driver replies.
Gavin, already aware of the situation through his spiritual field, says, "It might be Lou Xi and Sterza."
Fang Ping nods. "I think so too. Let's try to calm things down."
With that, he steps out of the carriage, and Gavin follows behind him.
Gavin stays back, observing as Fang Ping approaches the captain leading the city guards. Fang Ping explains why Lou Xi and Sterza attacked and restrained two doctors, but he is unaware that the city guard captain is also involved in causing the plague.
The captain refuses to side with Fang Ping and instead insists on arresting Lou Xi and Sterza. However, he hesitates to act, wary of their strength—and Lou Xi's status as a royal guard.
Five minutes later, Wang Hao arrives.
Among the five young men in their circle, Wang Hao is the only one who does not live in the princess's mansion, as his family resides in the city. His father is a duke, and he is also in love with the princess.
The moment he appears, the guards address him as "Commander."
After listening to Fang Ping's explanation, Wang Hao enters the herb center alone. Moments later, he emerges with the two tied-up doctors behind him. Lou Xi and Sterza follow closely behind.
Without a word, Wang Hao and the guards take the prisoners and leave.
Fang Ping, Lou Xi, and Sterza walk toward Gavin.
Maintaining his act, Gavin asks, "What happened?"
Sterza replies, "Those two were trying to block the families of the patients you treated from acquiring the herbs needed for the body refinement potion and antidote."
Lou Xi adds, "To stop them, we tied them up and distributed the herbs ourselves. That's when the guards arrived."
Sterza frowns. "There must be a third accomplice who alerted them."
Fang Ping sighs. "You three should return home. I'll stay at the herb center and consult with the other doctors to see if your treatment method can be applied to mild cases."
Lou Xi nods. "I'll stay with you to protect you. Gavin and Sterza, you two can return to the princess's mansion and inform her of what happened."
Sterza crosses her arms. "It's only noon. I don't want to return yet. I'll go with you two."
Gavin shakes his head. "I need to rest."
The three nod in understanding. Gavin climbs back into the carriage, and moments later, it starts moving again.
Gavin contemplates the formation of a martial sect and realizes he needs to develop a martial art technique with effects similar to the life-sculpting profession's magic energy.
Searching through his memories, he reviews the martial techniques he acquired—from the dead souls of bandits and royal guards, as well as from scanning all the books in Heilou City. Among them, five techniques stand out for their connection to life energy:
- Blood Burning Technique – A forbidden art that burns lifespan to accelerate cultivation, but it can only reach the True Essence rank.
- Sleeping Dragon Sutra – Not a cultivation technique but a method to heal the body rapidly.
- Yin and Yang Sutra – A dual cultivation technique that can advance to the Earth Essence realm.
- Longevity Yoga – A body cultivation method that enhances physical function, with records stating that successful cultivation may extend lifespan.
- Ancient Tree Sutra – A technique that cultivates wood energy essence, which has healing properties, and can reach the Heavenly Essence realm.
After careful consideration, he chooses the Blood Burning Technique.
"I still have around 900 years of lifespan. Burning 20 or 30 won't make a difference," he thinks. The reason is to find the mystery of internal energy and the true essence.
He studies the technique carefully before beginning practice. To cultivate it, he must first open his lower dantian, the energy space within his navel. Curious about whether all techniques start from the lower dantian, he investigates and discovers that 90% do, while some originate from the middle dantian, a mysterious energy center in the heart. There is also the upper dantian, an enigmatic space that practitioners from the main world primarily use for cultivation.
As he initiates the technique, he makes an unexpected discovery—he doesn't need to burn his lifespan at all. By using Golden Spiritual Energy and Life Energy, he can cultivate without sacrificing years of his life.
Before the carriage stops, he reaches the peak of the First Grade realm. He halts there, knowing that breaking through to the True Essence realm requires connecting his internal energy to the world's vital energy, transforming it into true essence.
As the carriage comes to a stop, Gavin steps down and walks toward the mansion's main house.
He stops a maid inside the main house and asks her to inform the princess that he wishes to speak with her. The maid nods, escorts him to the living room, and instructs him to wait while she delivers the message.
Within two minutes, the princess appears, dressed in elegant ancient attire, adorned with hundreds of delicate jewels in her hair. She speaks, "Mr. Gavin, I heard you wanted to talk to me."
Gavin proceeds to recount everything that has transpired since he left the mansion in the morning up until his return. The princess remains silent for a few moments before asking, "Mr. Gavin, how certain are you that the plague is man-made?"
In his mind, Gavin thinks, 100%, but he responds, "I am 80% sure the plague is man-made."
The princess contemplates his words before speaking aloud, "Why would someone release such a terrible plague?"
Gavin replies, "There must be something to gain. No one would unleash a disaster like this without a purpose."
The princess remains thoughtful as Gavin continues, "I reached this conclusion because the plague has not spread outside the city. Even within the inner city, the infection rate is far lower than in the outer city, where 60% of the population has been affected."
After further discussion and sharing lunch together, Gavin excuses himself, stating that he needs rest. He requests that no one disturb him for the rest of the day and that his dinner be left outside his door.
Inside his room, Gavin closes his eyes and begins the process of connecting his internal energy in his lower dantian with the world's Vital Energy. The key to this connection lies in matching frequencies—once the resonance aligns, he can absorb external Vital Energy and transform his internal energy into True Essence.
Within an hour, he successfully advances to the True Essence Realm.
Opening his eyes, he examines the True Essence forming in his palm—it appears blood-red. As expected, the Blood Burning Technique produces a vicious, non-healing essence. He had chosen this technique to understand the essence of this world's cultivation methods, but now that he has gained the knowledge he sought, he destroys the True Essence cultivated from the Blood Burning Technique.
Next, he begins practicing the Water Spirit Sutra, a technique he had initially overlooked. Upon closer examination, he realizes it contains healing properties and silently nourishes the body. Using his Golden Spiritual Energy, he cultivates it for two hours, deepening his understanding of True Essence. This technique can be cultivated up to the Earthly Essence Realm, but he stops before reaching that stage.
Instead, he starts over and practices the Yin and Yang Sutra, followed by the Ancient Wood Sutra, both up to the True Essence Realm. After that, he begins again, this time cultivating a neutral essence technique called the Nine Ring Technique.
By the time he reaches the peak of the True Essence Realm, three rings have formed in his dantian, consuming 30% of his Golden Spiritual Energy. Satisfied with his progress, he once again destroys his cultivation and notices that dawn has arrived.
Stepping outside his room, he retrieves the untouched dinner plate left for him the night before. As he eats, his mind becomes immersed in thought, his spiritual space buzzing with new insights.
Slowly, through trial and refinement, he begins constructing a new martial art—the Life Ring Sutra. Using the Nine Ring Technique as a foundation, he integrates healing aspects from other martial techniques. This new sutra allows cultivation up to the peak of the True Essence Realm.
With renewed determination, he starts practicing the Life Ring Sutra, consuming another 20% of his Golden Spiritual Energy. Upon reaching the peak of the True Essence Realm, his life level rises from the Intermediate Bronze Realm to the Peak Bronze Realm.
A final surprise awaits him—his Life Sculptor profession jumps from Rank 3 to Rank 7. Since the Life Ring Sutra is a healing technique, its energy circulation continuously repairs his internal injuries, enhancing his experience in the Life Sculpting profession.

His body and speed continued to increase rapidly as his life level advanced. This was due to his deep understanding of martial techniques and the Golden Spiritual Energy flowing through him.
Though his life level remained at Bronze Rank, his Golden Spiritual Energy was of the Golden Rank, which was equivalent to the Heavenly Realm in this world. One drop of Golden Spiritual Energy was equal to 10,000 units of Bronze Spiritual Energy or True Essence. Because of this, he could cultivate at an astonishing speed, reaching the peak of Bronze Rank in just a few hours.
However, this advantage would gradually diminish as his life level advanced and would completely vanish once he reached the Golden Rank. In this world, it took a full day to replenish just one drop of Golden Spiritual Energy.
Now, at the Peak True Essence Realm, combined with his Golden Rank Spiritual Power, he was strong enough to protect himself and Sterza.
Another reason he refrained from advancing to the Earthly Essence Realm was that its alternative name was the Earth Evil Essence Realm. Cultivators at this stage needed to absorb and refine Earth Evil Energy from the world to transform their True Essence into Earthly Essence.
Up to the True Essence Realm, his cultivation techniques lacked offensive strength. Though he had created his techniques for healing, he knew that a healer must also be able to protect themselves. Therefore, the Earth Evil Energy he would absorb had to be a dangerous energy that increased attack power.
Falling into deep thought, he expanded his spiritual field to scan the city. Soon, he discovered a source of dangerous energy forming in the corpse pit, where numerous bodies had been discarded.
"To truly understand life, one must also understand death."
Using his spiritual field, he drew the corpse energy from the pit, guiding it through the ground and into his room. As soon as he absorbed it, the energy clashed violently with the True Essence circulating within his body. He shut his eyes and took deep breaths as pain surged through him.
The two forces fought fiercely within him. When he had fully absorbed all the corpse energy, he realized that his body had grown stronger, and his True Essence had been further refined—now twice as powerful as before. Yet, despite the conflict, his True Essence remained pure healing energy—the corpse energy had failed to corrupt it.
An idea formed in his mind.
Extending his spiritual field, he drew in the plague energy from within the city and absorbed it.
Once again, his True Essence and the plague energy clashed, battling fiercely inside his body. Just like before, the plague energy inflicted damage, but his True Essence continuously healed and strengthened both his body and energy—refining him even further.
Gavin had to stop his practice as Sterza began knocking on his door.
"Come in," he said.
Sterza entered and immediately waved her hand in front of her nose. "What is this unpleasant smell?" she asked.
Gavin ignored the question and instead asked, "Why are you here?"
Sterza's expression turned serious. "Yesterday, when we were returning, we were attacked by masked men. During the fight, I realized that I couldn't use my full strength in this realm."
"You didn't notice this when fighting the bandits?" Gavin asked.
"It might be because I had my magic sword in my hand at that time," Sterza replied. "With its magic amplifying my attacks, I didn't notice any issues. But yesterday, I had to fight hand-to-hand because my magic sword was inside my space ring, and you told me not to use it in front of them."
"To adapt, you should practice the combat methods of this plane," Gavin suggested.
Sterza sighed. "I'm already busy practicing two professions. Adding another one… I don't have the time."
"What are your two professions?" Gavin asked.
"My main profession is Sword Knight, a variant of the Knight profession," Sterza answered. "My sub-profession is Blood Weaver."
Gavin responded, "Do you realize that we may have to stay in this world for about 100 years?"
Sterza's eyes narrowed. "Why?"
"I connected with my clone and discovered that time in this plane flows 100 times faster than in the main plane," Gavin explained.
Sterza's expression darkened. "How is that possible?" Then, shaking her head, she muttered, "It doesn't matter. If that's true, we may have to stay here for more than 100 years."
"It's possible," Gavin admitted. "We can absorb Vital Energy from this world and convert it into Magic Energy, but the transformation speed is slow. In normal situations, it's fine, but in combat, our energy consumption is four times higher than what we can replenish. Our spell power is also weaker in this plane. That's why you should practice a martial arts technique from this world."
Sterza frowned. "Have you been practicing martial arts?"
"I started after returning to my room yesterday," Gavin replied.
Sterza hesitated, then asked, "Do you have a martial arts cultivation technique that would suit me?"
Gavin searched through the techniques he had acquired and found one. "Yes. I've found a suitable technique for you. I'm sending it to your memory now."
With that, he transmitted the technique into Sterza's mind.
She clutched her head in pain, gritting her teeth. After a few moments, as the pain subsided, she glared at him. "You…!" Then she shook her head and muttered, "Water Spiritual Sword Technique—it can be cultivated up to the Peak Earthly Essence Realm."
A puzzled expression crossed her face. "But… what are these meridians and acupoints?"
Without a word, Gavin transmitted the knowledge of meridians and acupoints into her mind as well.
As Sterza's headache subsided, she shot Gavin an angry look. "You… I told you to warn me!"
Gavin remained unfazed. "The result would have been the same."
"Don't talk to me today!" Sterza huffed, turning on her heel and leaving his room.
Gavin followed behind her, knowing that Lou Xi and Fang Ping were approaching. Fang Ping had a bandage wrapped around her left arm.
As Gavin stepped out, he heard Lou Xi call out, "Miss Sterza."
Sterza stopped, glanced toward Lou Xi, and walked toward him. Gavin shut his door behind him and followed.
"I heard about the attack yesterday," Gavin said.
Fang Ping's face paled. "If Miss Sterza hadn't been there, I would have died," she admitted with lingering fear.
Sterza reassured her, "You were with me. How could I let them hurt you?"
Gavin turned to Fang Ping. "Why don't you practice martial arts?"
Fang Ping hesitated. "I… I don't like fighting or killing."
Lou Xi interjected, "But you need to know how to protect yourself."
Fang Ping sighed. "I know. After yesterday's attack, I've decided to start practicing."
Gavin nodded. "Do you want to learn my exercise?"
Fang Ping looked at him curiously. "I can?"
Gavin replied, "I created the exercise myself. I can teach it to anyone."
Both Fang Ping and Lou Xi were shocked.
Gavin continued, "How about you come to my room this evening? I'll teach you the exercise."
Fang Ping nodded. "Okay."
With that, they walked into the pavilion and sat down to have breakfast.
