Missions

Where's the shop button? If there is one... I scanned the system interface until I spotted it tucked away in the bottom right corner. The button was designed like a shopping cart icon. Curious, I clicked it, and the screen shifted from my stats to a neatly organized display of items.

The list of items was surprisingly small—only 20 in total. Some of the notable ones included:

[Cloak of Darkness]

Increases stealth by 30% in dark environments and boosts dark magic efficiency by 40%.

[Mask of the Crows]

Prevents inhalation of poison and conceals your face.

System, why is the list of items so limited? And how do I buy them? I asked, my curiosity piqued.

[The list of items is limited because you have not purchased the system upgrade. You can buy items using Vampire Points. There are two ways to earn Vampire Points: first, by completing missions, and second, by draining blood from people.]

Ah, so it's a grind, huh? I thought, already planning my next moves. Guess I'll have to start earning those points if I want to get my hands on these items.

First things first, I need to get out of this damn hospital room. I glanced at the clock—3 AM. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to leave. But since there's nothing else I can do right now, I might as well check out the missions.

"System, show me the available missions," I said, leaning back against the hospital bed.

[Mission: Begin the Hunt]

[Mission Description: Every great vampire must start somewhere. Hunt 5 individuals and drain their blood to prove your worth.]

[Reward: 100 Vampire Points]

Hunt 5 individuals, huh? I thought, my mind already racing with possibilities. First, I need to find 5 people whose disappearance won't raise suspicion. Criminals, maybe? Or those who won't be missed. Second, I have to be careful about how I operate. If any superhero catches wind of my activities and discovers my identity, it'll be a disaster.

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. And I can't operate during the day for quite a while, thanks to my weakness to sunlight. This is going to be trickier than I thought.

Huh, when did I start having these serious, killing thoughts? I wondered, a chill running down my spine. I have to be careful not to lose myself in this. The last thing I want is to become a monster.

I leaned back against the hospital bed, my mind racing. The timeline in this world seems to be after the invasion of New York. There's little news about the X-Men, but the Brotherhood is still active. As for vampires in Marvel, I remember they're usually created from a virus in some versions. There's also the first vampire, Varnae, and Dracula, who's still lurking in the shadows.

I let my head fall back onto the cushion, closing my eyes as I thought about all the things that could go wrong now that I'm in the Marvel world. Superheroes, supervillains, and now vampires... This is going to be a lot more complicated than I thought.

"Mr. Dover, you're free to leave the hospital now. You've fully recovered," the doctor said, turning to my sister.

"Do you have any idea why he suddenly passed out?" Remi asked, her voice laced with concern.

"It was most likely heatstroke," the doctor replied, handing her a stack of discharge papers.

"Thank you, doctor," we both said in unison as we left the room and headed toward the elevator.

Once we were alone, Remi turned to me with a teasing smile. "You should spend more time in the sun and less time cooped up in your room, Ren. That way, you won't get heatstroke again."

"What are you talking about? I spend more time in the sun than you do!" I shot back, trying to sound confident. But inside, I was panicking. Now that I'm a vampire, I'm more likely to die from sunlight than from a gunshot.

"Okay, Mr. 'I Literally Died from Heatstroke,'" Remi teased, rolling her eyes.

I ignored her remark, too busy thinking about how to complete the mission. As we stepped outside the hospital, I was immediately hit by the sunlight. My limbs felt like they were weighed down by bricks, and a sharp pain throbbed in my head. My body and mind screamed at me to retreat into the shadows and sleep, but I forced myself to stay upright and conscious. I can do this. My house isn't far from the hospital.

"Uh, are you okay?" Remi asked, concern etched across her face as she glanced at me.

"Yeah, just a little dizzy," I lied, forcing a smile. I tried to maintain my composure, but every step felt like a battle against the sunlight threatening to overwhelm me.

As soon as we reached home, I bolted straight to my room, closing all the curtains to block out the sunlight. I collapsed onto the bed, my body utterly drained from the battle against the sun. Exhaustion and hunger gnawed at me as I closed my eyes, desperate for some peace.

When I woke up, the sun was setting, casting an orange glow through the cracks in the curtains. I quietly moved to Remi's room and peeked inside—she was fast asleep. Good. That gives me until morning to complete the mission.

My first thought was to go after criminals. They were the easiest targets—people who wouldn't be missed. But I'd have to find them first. As I changed into black jeans, a black jacket, and a black shirt, I grabbed a black mask to hide my face. Time to hunt.
