Chapter 126: Target—The Military Base

The semi-truck lay across the road, with two Hummers lodged underneath it. The scene was a complete mess.

The air was eerily silent, except for the lingering haze of smoke and dust.

The Hummers weren't moving.

Owen and Monica approached cautiously, their guns trained on the vehicles. The windows weren't tinted, so they could clearly see inside.

Inside the first Hummer, four men, including Alex, were slumped over in their seats.

The driver lay motionless, while the others were groaning in pain.

During the crash, they had been traveling over 200 km/h (124 mph)—and none of them had been wearing seatbelts.

That old saying was true: "Drive recklessly, and your loved ones will cry for you."

Owen and Monica split up, with one covering the front door and the other the rear.

As soon as they pulled the doors open, one of the mercenaries tried reaching for a gun—

BANG!

Owen stomped on his hand and put a bullet in his head.

Now was not the time for mercy.

Without hesitation, they finished off the remaining mercenaries, making sure none of them were left breathing.

After dragging the bodies out, Owen and Monica jumped into the Hummer.

Ignition. Reverse. Drive.

Despite the violent crash, the Hummer still worked perfectly.

It was clear now—this wasn't an ordinary civilian vehicle.

It was practically an armored personnel carrier.

Owen didn't bother checking the second Hummer—

He had already spotted vehicles approaching in the distance.

There was no time to waste.

They had to move. Now.

He gunned the Hummer's engine, steering it through the gap in the wreckage and back onto the road, accelerating toward their final destination—

The military base.

The Final Chase

Owen's only thought now was to get Alex to the military base ASAP.

Chloe had mentioned three groups hunting him—

They had already encountered two.

That meant one more was still unaccounted for.

For all he knew, they could be waiting to ambush him at any moment.

The Hummer tore through the streets.

Because of the massive crash earlier, the highway was nearly empty—

Leaving only one lone armored Hummer speeding down the road.

But not for long.

Soon, another Hummer appeared in the rearview mirror.

Persistent bastards.

Owen gritted his teeth.

He should've finished them off earlier.

Monica's Revenge

Inside the vehicle, Monica grabbed Alex by the collar—

And pummeled him awake.

Alex blinked in confusion, trying to process what just happened.

"How the hell am I back in their hands?!"

Before he could react, he noticed Monica glaring at him murderously.

Then—

BAM!

A fist smashed into his face.

"Ohhh my nose!" Alex screamed in agony.

This time, it wasn't Owen who hit him—

It was Monica.

She had promised—and she kept her word.

Not satisfied, she punched him again.

Tears and snot streamed down Alex's face, his body reacting instinctively to the searing pain.

Monica had been under fire all morning, unable to fight back.

Her rage had reached its peak.

And then, that little bastard had flipped her off from inside the Hummer?

Hell no.

She shook out her fist and smirked—now she finally felt better.

Full Throttle to the Base

Owen pushed the Hummer to its max speed.

Even though he had never driven one before, it handled like a regular SUV—nothing too complicated.

Behind them, the other Hummer refused to give up.

Clearly, a $100 million bounty was worth the risk.

Alex, desperate to survive, tried offering more money—

"I'll pay you $150 million—no, $200 million! You each get $100 million! Just let me go!"

Monica's response?

Another punch to the nose.

The words never made it out of his mouth.

She wasn't holding back either—

Originally, she had punched people in the stomach.

But after hanging around Owen too much, she had picked up his bad habit—

Always aiming for the nose.

Owen figured Alex's nose was probably beyond repair at this point.

The speedometer maxed out, the Hummer flying down the road.

The pursuing vehicle matched their speed, unable to close the gap, but also impossible to shake off.

Other vehicles were appearing in the distance—

Owen wasn't sure if it was the final faction, or if CTU had caught up—

But he didn't care.

His only goal—

The military base.

Reaching the Military Zone

The base was now visible on the horizon.

Just a little further.

Once inside, he wouldn't have to worry anymore.

Even if every criminal in Los Angeles was after him, the military would handle them.

Owen pushed the Hummer even harder.

They had left Los Angeles behind, heading toward the military installation that was 50 kilometers outside the city.

As they transitioned to narrower, two-lane rural roads, it was clear—they were getting close.

Alex's Final Offer

Alex, now truly desperate, begged for his life—

"Please! I'll give you $200 million! Two hundred million dollars! You'll be enemies of the Montel family if you don't take the deal! They'll hunt you for the rest of your lives! Just let me go—please!"

Owen and Monica?

Silent.

They didn't even acknowledge him.

"NO! NO!!"

Alex screamed in frustration.

Breaking Through the Gate

The military base loomed ahead.

But the pursuers were right behind them.

Owen aimed straight for the base entrance.

Through the loudspeakers, a warning blared—

"Stop your vehicle immediately, or we will open fire!"

Owen had no choice—he couldn't stop.

RATATATATATATA!

Gunfire erupted.

Bullets rained down on the road ahead, warning shots from the military guards—

But Owen didn't slow down.

Then—

BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!

A storm of bullets hammered the Hummer's exterior.

Even though it was armored, Owen and Monica ducked inside, unsure if it could withstand the barrage.

Behind them—

The pursuing vehicles skidded to a halt.

Owen had been right—

The mercenaries may have been fearless in Los Angeles—

But even they wouldn't dare attack a U.S. military base.

CRASH!

The Hummer smashed into an obstacle, jerking to a stop.

Almost instantly, the area filled with soldiers, their weapons aimed directly at them.

"Step out of the vehicle with your hands up!"

Owen raised his hands, slowly exiting the Hummer.

As he was forced to the ground, he saw—

The mercenary vehicles in the distance, reluctantly turning back.

They had failed.

Owen had won.
