New Friends

Lyra had been at her new school for a month now, and she still felt a little lonely. Her father was still in the hospital, in coma, and her mother was always busy with work. Lyra missed her old friends, but she was excited to make new ones.

One day, while she was sitting in class, a girl with curly puffs came over to her. "Hi, I'm Maya," she said, smiling.

Lyra smiled back. "Hello, I'm Lyra," she said.

Maya and Lyra chatted and giggled about a lot of things until the teacher walked in. Lyra found out they had a lot in common. They both loved playing with dolls, playing dress up and watching cartoons.

When it was time for lunch, Maya asked Lyra to sit with her. Lyra was thrilled. She didn't have to eat alone anymore!

As they sat down at a table, Maya pointed to a boy who was eating by himself. "That's Sky," she said. "He's the beta's son. He's really nice, but he's always alone."

Lyra looked at Sky, feeling a sense of curiosity. "What's a beta?" She asked Maya.

Maya stared at her for while, looking at her surprised. "You don't know what a beta is?" She asked.

Lyra shook her head. " No, I don't."

Maya leaned in, a conspiratorial look on her face. "It's a position," she said. "The beta is a general, below the alpha."

Lyra's eyes widened. "The alpha?" she repeated.

Maya nodded. "Yeah, the alpha is like the king. He's in charge of everything."

Lyra felt like she was learning a new language. She had never heard of these words before.

Maya teased Lyra, saying that Sky was a little like her, shy and quiet. But Lyra didn't think that was true. She thought Sky just needed someone to talk to.

Lyra suggested they go say hi to Sky, and Maya agreed. As they walked over to Sky's table, Lyra felt a little nervous. What if Sky didn't want to talk to them?

Sky looked up with a small smile, and Lyra felt happy. Maya introduced them and they started talking, and Lyra found out that Sky was really cool. He liked playing with Legos and riding his bike.

As the lunch break came to an end, Lyra felt sad. She didn't want the day to end.

But Maya and Sky walked with her to her next class, and they all chatted together. Lyra felt happy. She had finally found some friends!

When Lyra got home, she told her mother all about her new friends. Her mother was happy for her, and she asked Lyra lots of questions.

Lyra also called her old friends, and they were happy for her too. Lyra felt happy. She had friends in her old school and her new school!

Lyra temporarily forgot her problems for a day. She went to bed that night, she feeling very happy. She had found friends, and she knew she would have a great time with them tomorrow.
