Chapter 4

The massive flames were about to engulf the helicopter. Dane turned back, wanting to save me, but was quickly whisked away by his men.

In an instant, the chopper vanished into the sky above the small island.

Meanwhile, I had successfully escaped from the sea of fire. Kirin stared at me, a hint of amusement in his eyes.

He arranged for a doctor to see me, frowning slightly at the sight of my injuries.

"This doesn't seem like the work of my men. It's more like interrogation techniques."

As expected of an old fox, he immediately noticed something was off. Those wounds were inflicted by Dane.

He crossed his arms and softly uttered a few words: "Hurt by love, I see."

"Shut up, you're being nosy."

He had approached me before, wanting to collaborate on capturing the top fugitive Quint, to curry favor with the U.S. government for the bounty. But despite his best efforts, he hadn't succeeded.

Kirin's capture of Dane was also to force me out of hiding. He said he hadn't expected that man to be so useful.

"In this line of work, having emotional attachments is a major weakness. Lucky for you, I value talent. Otherwise, you'd have been dead many times over."

"If I hadn't willingly come here, you wouldn't have caught me in the first place."

My eyes narrowed slightly. I'd stage a fake death for him, and in return, I'd work for him to catch Quint.This business is a guaranteed profit.

I had been thinking about leaving the organization for years. I grew up in an orphanage from birth, then was discovered and brought back to the organization by my master at that time, selling my life for the organization for so many years.

Dane said it was time to retire, get married and start a family. That was actually my beautiful wish, but the organization would never agree to let go of their cash cow.

This time is perfect.

Using Dane and Lily's incident to fake my death, pinning all the blame on them.

It was all part of my plan, but I never imagined Dane would go so far, with no regard for our relationship. Kirin was right, for someone like me, being tainted by love is like being wrapped in poison.

When the helicopter landed at the organization's secret base, Dane was in a daze, still not recovered from the shock of the explosion.

"Kirin hated Indra, he must have..." Dane's lips were trembling, "With such a big explosion and fire, Indra is likely..."

"Indra is the most capable, how could anything happen to her? She's risked her life infiltrating enemy territory so many times before. Besides, how could Kirin bear to harm her?"

Not long after, news of my death reached the organization.Dane's legs went weak instantly. His eyes turned bloodshot, and he abandoned the charade of memory loss.

He cried out my name, saying he needed to save me and bring me home.

"She's still waiting for me to rescue her. Indra is waiting for me. If I don't come, she'll get worried."

As Dane moved forward, Lily stepped in to block him. He kicked her aside, causing her pain. She probably never expected the man to treat her like that.

Tearfully, she looked at Dane with utter disbelief.

"Dane... how could you kick me? It really hurts."

"Get out of my way. This is all because of you," Dane snarled. "If you hadn't run off and gotten captured by the Kirin, Indra wouldn't be in danger. It's all your fault."

Dane said why couldn't it have been you who died. Lily opened her mouth in horror, begging Dane not to say such things as it hurt her.

"You told me you loved me more, that you'd marry me. Why are you telling me to get lost now?"

Lily couldn't accept the drastic change in Dane. He had previously disregarded my life for her sake.

But now, this Dane terrified her!

"If it weren't for you holding us back, Indra wouldn't have died. Who else is there to blame but you? Marry you?You also dare? My wife can only be Indra!
