I can't lie deep down, I couldn't help but laugh bitterly.
Yeah, she knows me so well, and she knows I'm not a petty person.
I rarely get jealous or angry when Aria interacts with other men.
But Zoran is the one exception.
"Either quit your job and stay away from Zoran, or we break up."
I only gave Aria these two choices.
After a long standoff, Aria sighed softly and finally gave in to me.
"I'll quit!"
She hugged me tightly, and my eyes welled up with tears again.
I didn't want Aria to lose her job either, but I had no other choice.
I couldn't stand by and watch her grow closer to Zoran.
Aria and I reconciled.
I accompanied her as she constantly sent out resumes, looking for a new job.
When she felt down, I cheered her on just like I used to.
Until one day, Aria was in a bad mood and went to a bar for a couple of drinks.
Aria almost fell prey to some creeps, when Zoran happened to pass by and saw her.
Zoran stepped in heroically, getting into a fistfight with those thugs.
He managed to rescue the drunk Aria.
And this scene just happened to be witnessed by me.
Aria was crying her eyes out, while Zoran held her in his arms, full of concern."Thank you for saving me......"
Perhaps noticing me in the corner, Zoran pushed Aria away, grabbed her by the sleeve, and pulled her in front of me.
"Your girlfriend is safe and sound. I'm leaving her with you. Goodbye!"
With that, Zoran left.
On the way home, Aria seemed distracted the entire time.
I was pale-faced and breaking out in a cold sweat the whole journey.
I kept wavering between breaking up and leaving.
But that evening, I once again noticed something off about Aria.
Aria had said she was going to make dinner for me and carelessly left her phone on the living room table.
For the first time ever, I felt compelled to check her phone.
Right at the top of her chat history, I saw a glaring name: Zoran.
A part of my heart felt like it had been stabbed.
Before all this, Aria had supposedly deleted Zoran's contact from her phone.
How were they in touch again now?
My thoughts were a tangled mess, my mind in utter chaos.
People say everything is predestined, that we have no control over our fate.
Were Aria and I really doomed to helplessly watch ourselves walk into a dead end?
I looked desperately at Aria, busy in the kitchen.
An extreme thought suddenly came to mind.I clenched my fist and took out a whole bottle of sleeping pills from the cabinet.
Perhaps murder was the only way to solve the root problem!
After making up my mind, I took grape juice from the fridge and poured nearly the entire bottle of sleeping pills into it.
I watched as the sleeping pills slowly dissolved in the grape juice.
When Aria finished bustling around in the kitchen and came out with steaming hot food, calling me to wash my hands for dinner,
I expressionlessly handed her the grape juice.
"Thirsty?"
Aria took it with a smile, "Sweetheart, you're so thoughtful. You know I love grape juice."
She was completely unsuspecting as she brought it to her lips to drink.
"Aria!"
I regretted it again.
I quickly snatched the glass of grape juice from her hand and decisively poured it down the drain.
"I forgot to check the expiration date just now. This grape juice is expired, don't drink it."
Aria didn't think much of it, just smiled and took my hand to lead me to dinner.
I had no appetite for this meal, only managed a couple bites before putting down my chopsticks.
I couldn't help but mock my own cowardice in my heart.
After dinner, I sat on the couch scrolling through videos while Aria unknowingly fell asleep.
In truth, I hadn't paid attention to a single video, my mind completely distracted the whole time.Tonight while cooking dinner, I only briefly glanced at Aria's phone, but I saw that she still had Zoran on WeChat.
It was as if a voice kept calling out to me in my mind.
"Don't you want to know how things are progressing between them?"
"Go take a look."
"Just one peek and you'll know."
As if possessed, I snatched Aria's phone from the nightstand and carefully crept out of the bedroom.
