Chapter 18– The Mafia King's Warning
Kai's POV( First time)
The air in his private study was thick with the scent of whiskey and leather, but Kai barely noticed. His sharp eyes were locked onto the screens in front of him, his fingers moving swiftly over the keyboard as he searched for information on the man he had executed at the gala.
It didn't take long.
Within minutes, the details came flooding in—connections, deals, family ties, enemies. The name on the screen made Kai narrow his eyes.
Joon-Seok Baek.
A big name in South Korea's underworld.
Not because of his personal achievements, but because of who his father was.
Hyun-Woo Baek, leader of the Baek Mafia Syndicate. A man known for his cunning, his ruthlessness, and his obsession with keeping his bloodline powerful.
Kai sighed, running a hand through his dark hair.
Of course.
Joon-Seok was his only son. The spoiled heir, the untouchable prince, the man who thought he could have whatever he wanted.
He had underestimated Kai.
Now, he was dead.
Kai smirked coldly, reaching for his phone. He pressed a single button. Within seconds, his most trusted assistant answered.
"Boss."
Kai's voice was smooth but held a deadly edge. "Deliver the body to the Baek mansion."
A pause. "…As a message?"
Kai took a sip of whiskey. "Make sure they understand. He touched what belongs to me."
His assistant chuckled darkly. "Should I send a little extra?"
Kai exhaled slowly. "Take his dominant hand. Send it separately."
He wasn't a man who enjoyed unnecessary cruelty. But a message had to be sent.
He ended the call and leaned back in his chair.
He knew Hyun-Woo Baek wouldn't stay silent.
And he was right.
---
Thirty Minutes Later
Kai's phone buzzed.
An international number.
He took another sip of whiskey before answering.
"Kai Valenti."
The voice on the other end was low, furious. "You killed my son."
Kai smirked slightly, setting his glass down. "I did."
A dangerous silence stretched between them.
Hyun-Woo finally spoke. His voice was sharp as a blade. "You should have let him go with a warning. Now, I have no choice but to take something from you."
Kai exhaled slowly, his patience thinning. "Is that so?"
Hyun-Woo's voice turned ice-cold. "You may be the Mafia King, but I do not fear you. You killed my heir. Prepare yourself, Valenti."
Kai closed his eyes briefly, then leaned forward, his voice dropping into something quiet. Lethal.
"Listen carefully, Hyun-Woo."
A pause.
Kai's tone was calm, but his words carried death.
"If you try anything—anything at all—I will personally put a bullet in your pregnant wife's stomach and kill your 'true' heir before he even gets a name."
Silence.
Deadly.
Cold.
Kai could hear the older man's breathing change, the barely-contained rage mixing with something else—fear.
Kai smiled darkly. "Don't forget, Hyun-Woo… I am not just a mafia leader. I am the Mafia King. Your son was nothing compared to me. And if you want to keep your family alive, I suggest you remember that."
Another long pause. Then, a single sharp breath from Hyun-Woo before he muttered:
"This isn't over, Valenti."
Kai chuckled softly. "Oh, it is. The moment your son touched my wife, his fate was sealed."
He ended the call.
Hyun-Woo would stew in his anger, but he wouldn't act—not yet.
Kai stretched his neck, rolling his shoulders as he glanced at the time.
3:00 AM.
He groaned slightly, rubbing his temples. He needed sleep.
Pushing himself up from his chair, he made his way towards the bedroom, his mind still buzzing with calculations, next steps, possible retaliations.
But as he stepped inside, all thoughts vanished.
There she was.
Raven.
Lying on their massive bed, her dark hair spilling across the silk pillowcase. She was wearing one of her short nightdresses, the fabric clinging to her curves in a way that made his throat dry.
His jaw clenched.
His body reacted instantly.
Kai exhaled sharply, running a hand over his face.
"Damn her."
Even in her sleep, she drove him insane.
He stood there for a long moment, just watching her.
Then, with a sigh, he turned away and headed straight for the bathroom, turning the water to the coldest setting.
As the icy spray hit his skin, Kai closed his eyes and muttered to himself.
"I hate her."
"Always trying to seduce me with her... Gosh".
His thoughts went spiral when he thought of her graduation day and the wedding, she was looking like his queen, He smirked oddly.
After the cold shower, sleep was far away from him, so he did some work.
