Perez scoffed, exchanging glances with his closest allies on the board; Gustavo and Salvador. “Patterns? Carmen, you’re reaching. Errors happen all the time in large organizations like ours. It’s a natural occurrence. I hope you’re not calling this meeting based on speculation.”

Salvador nodded in agreement. “I have to agree with Perez. Calling an emergency meeting over unproven theories is a drastic move,” he added.

Carmen’s eyes bore into them. “Drastic move? This isn’t a theory first off. The funds in question haven’t just vanished. They’ve been traced to accounts of shell corporations. And if you’re so certain it’s just an error, then you wouldn’t mind helping us conduct a full audit to clear this up, right?”

Perez’s face grew sullen, but he forced a smirk. “Of course. But let’s not create unnecessary hysteria. An audit, as you suggest, will prove exactly what I’m saying. These discrepancies are nothing more than careless accounting.”
