Chapter 85: Whispers of Tailed Beasts

The tension across the Five Great Nations was palpable. Rumors of the Nine-Tails' capture during the Jinchūriki transfer had spread like wildfire, reaching even the most remote corners of the world. While some dismissed it as mere hearsay, others took the matter far more seriously.

Cloud, Sand, and Mist React

In the Land of Lightning, the Cloud Village council gathered before the Raikage, their expressions grim.

"We have received word that the Nine-Tails may have been taken during the transfer," one of the elders reported.

The Raikage scoffed, his powerful arms crossed over his chest. "Baseless rumors do not concern me. What does concern me is who benefits from such chaos. Konoha has the most to lose, yet they remain suspiciously quiet."

His advisor spoke up. "If the rumors are true, Konoha has lost one of its strongest weapons. But if they are false… perhaps they are setting a trap."

The Raikage's fingers drummed against the table. "We'll watch Konoha closely. If they truly lost the Nine-Tails, we must prepare for war."

Meanwhile, in the Sand Village, the Kazekage listened to the reports with a contemplative look.

"Konoha never needed the Nine-Tails to be a powerhouse. If they've lost it, they won't admit it easily," he mused. "We will not act yet. Instead, we'll let the Cloud and Mist villages test the waters first."

In the Mist Village, the Mizukage leaned back in his chair, the dim candlelight casting sharp shadows over his face.

"Chaos in Konoha benefits us. If they are truly weakened, this may be the opportunity we have been waiting for. But we must confirm the truth before making any moves."

He glanced toward his most trusted shinobi. "Send our spies. If this rumor is false, we'll use it to stir conflict among the other villages."

Ryusei, Orochimaru, and Tsunade Meet the Third Hokage

In Konoha, within the Hokage's office, Sarutobi Hiruzen sat in silent contemplation as Orochimaru, Tsunade, and Ryusei stood before him. The three held the weight of Konoha's future in their hands.

Ryusei was the first to speak. "The rumor of the Nine-Tails' capture is spreading faster than we expected."

Tsunade, arms crossed, added, "We should neither confirm nor deny it."

Orochimaru smirked, his golden eyes glinting. "A simple denial would raise suspicions. If we admit it, we look weak. But by saying nothing, we leave the world uncertain."

Hiruzen exhaled, setting his pipe down. "And what of Mito-sama?"

Tsunade's gaze softened. "Mito-sama is strong. Even without the Nine-Tails, she could live for another hundred years. We do not need the beast."

Hiruzen nodded. "Then we allow the world to speculate. This also gives us a chance to observe Danzo."

Orochimaru chuckled darkly. "Indeed. If Danzo believes the beast is truly lost, we'll see how far he's willing to go. If he oversteps… we'll have reason to remove him."

Hiruzen's eyes darkened. "Then we proceed carefully. The moment Danzo shows his hand, we will decide his fate."

The Raikage Learns of a Greater Loss

Just as the Raikage was about to dismiss his council, an ANBU operative burst into the room, kneeling before him.

"Raikage-sama, urgent news!"

The Raikage's sharp gaze locked onto the masked shinobi. "Speak."

"The Eight-Tails and the Two-Tails… have been captured."

Silence filled the chamber. The council members exchanged shocked glances, and for the first time that night, the Raikage's fists clenched in barely restrained fury.

"Who?" His voice was dangerously low.

"We… we do not yet know."

The Raikage's eyes burned with rage. "Find out. Immediately."

As the ANBU vanished, the Raikage slammed his fist onto the table, cracking the wood beneath it.

"Konoha is not the only village at risk," he muttered. "If the Tailed Beasts are being hunted… we may be next."
