The Promise of the Star

The night was colder than usual. The dim glow of the streetlights flickered outside, casting eerie shadows across the worn-out walls of a small apartment in Tokyo. A faint cough echoed through the silence.

Hoshino Aki sat beside his mother's frail body, watching as she struggled to breathe. Her once-bright eyes were now dull, but they still held warmth whenever she looked at him.

"Aki…" she whispered, reaching out to touch his face.

"Yes, Mother?" He held her hand tightly, afraid to let go.

A weak smile spread across her lips. "Do you remember the story I told you? The one about the falling star?"

Aki nodded. "The star that comes every 400 years… the one that grants wishes," he murmured.

Yuki chuckled softly, though it quickly turned into another fit of coughing. "That's right… When the star falls, a beautiful girl descends with it. She is sent by the heavens to grant the wish of those who truly need help."

Aki stared at her, his small hands trembling. "Then… can I wish for you to get better?"

His mother's expression softened. "Oh, my sweet Aki… The star chooses its own wish to grant. Only those with a pure heart and great suffering will be chosen."

Tears welled up in Aki's eyes. "But I do suffer! I don't want you to go, Mother… Please, don't leave me."

Yuki stroked his hair gently. "My little star… Even if I go, I will always be watching over you. One day, when the star returns, you'll understand."

That night, Aki held onto his mother's hand as he drifted to sleep.

By morning, she was gone.

20 Years Later – 2025

The sound of a school bell echoed across the hallways of Seiran High School (青蘭高校).

Hoshino Aki sat at his desk, staring blankly out the window. The sky was clear, but something about it felt different today.

"Hey, Aki!" A voice snapped him out of his thoughts. His classmate, Nakamura Ren (中村 蓮), leaned over his desk. "Did you hear about the rare celestial event happening this weekend?"

Aki frowned. "Celestial event?"

Ren nodded eagerly. "Yeah! Apparently, a super-rare star is passing by Earth. It only happens once every 400 years!"

Aki's heart skipped a beat.

400 years…

It couldn't be.

Memories from his childhood came rushing back—the story his mother told him, the promise of a wish-granting star.

For years, he had convinced himself it was just a fairy tale. But if the star was real… could the girl from the legend be real too?

As he looked up at the endless sky, a strange feeling stirred deep within him.

Something was coming.

And this t

ime, he would be there to see it.
