The Aftermath of the Storm

Looking at what had just happened, Jaron and Baran stood dumbfounded. They rushed toward their friend, who, at that point, was battered and bleeding, with small cuts all over his body except for the area in front of him, where his shield had been cut to pieces.

Yet, the ground did not stop vibrating...

Baran looked at Wind and saw that he had started to walk again. He shouted,

'STOP! Kid, the test is over. Just go back to the hall you were at before.'

Wind stopped and began to walk away as if nothing had happened. Meanwhile, Baran himself couldn't stop shaking and said to Jaron,

'Did you see him?'

Jaron was trying to lift Gerald up.

'Yeah, I did. A real piece of work. Come on, let's get Gerald to the medic.'

Baran's voice cracked as he said,

'I meant before he left... he was smiling.'

Jaron stood still.

'I guess we had a maniac come by then... Let's refuse him and move on. It isn't a good idea to deal with maniacs.'

At the hall, Wind was sitting on a wooden chair with his eyes closed.

The sound of light footsteps approaching could be heard in the hall.

Then, the sound stopped in front of Wind, and a delicate hand tapped his shoulder.

Wind opened his eyes with a deadpan expression and saw a girl with long, flowing silver hair standing in front of him. She was wearing a long black dress and earrings shaped like boxes in each ear.

Wind just stared at her.

She smiled and said with curiosity in her eyes,

'How did you do it?'

Wind answered,

'Do what?'

'The attack you just hit Gerald with! How did you do that? It was the first time I've seen a magic user who could cause such a storm!'

she said hurriedly.

Wind raised his hand, put his index fingers up, and said,

'By channeling Roh, like all magic.'

When he lifted his hand, the girl noticed the state of his fingers and grew shocked.

'What happened to your hands? Have you seen a medic?'

Wind's facial expression did not change.

'Paying a price ... or at least, that's what my master calls it. No, I haven't seen a medic about it. And can you stop asking me questions? If you're here for the guard work application, you can go to the field and meet the examiners to ask them what to do.'

The girl looked annoyed and said,

'Well, it's partially my fault for not introducing myself. I am Melissa of the Gillian merchant group. And I so happen to be the person you're applying to guard.'

Wind immediately replied,

'Will you hire me, then?'

Melissa started to laugh,

'If you can use the same magic you used against Gerald at will, then most likely, you'll be hired. The final decision will be made by my eldest brother, Mervin.'

Then she smirked and continued,

'But my brother usually keeps my recommendations in mind. So, you'd better answer my questions if you want a more favorable outcome and the job.'
