Chaos on the Battlefield
The Plains of Leipira were consumed by fire and destruction, the ground quaking under the relentless bombardment from the Defiance Vanguard. Explosions sent metal and earth flying, war machines shattered, and the air was filled with the hum of energy weapons tearing through the battlefield.
Yet, amidst the storm, Ixtiel moved with purpose.
Inside his Formicron, he scanned the battlefield with sharp amusement. His forces were pressing forward, his warriors were relentless, and the sky itself seemed to be in his favor.
But he wanted to send a message.
Locking onto one of Val'katl's elite warriors, a veteran of the Boulderkeep Eight, Ixtiel smirked.
With one brutal strike, his Formicron's energy blade cut through the enemy war machine, detonating it in a single explosion.
The battlefield went momentarily silent as fifty more of Val'katl's warriors and generals fell in an overwhelming strike, their Formicrons breaking apart under the impact of Ixtiel's attack.
The tide had shifted.
Ixtiel opened his comms. His voice was cold, absolute.
"Val'katl! Let's end this. You and me. Here and now."
A moment passed.
Then, Val'katl's voice answered.
"So be it."
The Duel Amidst Fire
As the chaos of battle raged on, two titanic war machines stepped forward, separating from the larger battle.
The bombardment continued, the sky glowing with the streaks of energy fire, but neither warrior hesitated.
Val'katl's twin blades clashed against Ixtiel's weapon, the impact shaking the earth. Sparks flew, the battlefield illuminated by the intensity of their duel.
Tlandar and Akashma tried to reach them, their Formicrons moving through enemy fire, but the intensity of the battle forced them away, separated by the waves of destruction.
Val'katl fought with precision, every move calculated, but Ixtiel fought with ruthless force, exploiting every opportunity.
Then—the decisive blow came.
A feint. A quick maneuver.
And Ixtiel's blade struck true.
Val'katl's Formicron staggered, its systems failing, its armor breaking apart.
With one final impact, Ixtiel sent it crashing to the ground, sliding across the battlefield before coming to a halt.
Ixtiel stood over his fallen enemy.
Victory was his.
He raised his weapon for the final strike.
Tlandar's Intervention
Tlandar saw the moment, the split-second opening.
The bombardment created a temporary gap in the chaos, a safe passage to Val'katl's downed Formicron.
Without thinking, he pushed his Formicron forward, full speed.
"NOOOO!"
His Formicron slammed into Ixtiel's, knocking him back just as his finishing blow was about to land.
With one powerful motion, Tlandar grabbed Val'katl's downed Formicron and pulled it away from the danger zone.
Akashma provided cover fire, keeping enemy forces at bay as Tlandar dragged Val'katl's damaged war machine away from the battlefield.
Escape Through Fire
Tlandar jumped out of his Formicron, rushing toward Val'katl's damaged cockpit.
The hatch was stuck.
With all his strength, he forced it open, pulling Val'katl out.
The warlord was injured but alive.
Tlandar threw Val'katl's arm over his shoulder, dragging him toward cover as Akashma held the line.
Ahead, Tlandar spotted an abandoned Pachkal tactical buggy, half-buried in the wreckage.
"There! Get in!"
With no time to waste, they climbed inside, Tlandar hitting the accelerator just as enemy forces closed in.
The Shadow Legion pursued, their hover-platforms closing fast.
Then—a massive blast from the Defiance Vanguard struck nearby.
The shockwave lifted the buggy into the air, flipping it violently before it crashed deep into Val'katl's trenches.
The Marshland Refuge
Tlandar pushed himself out of the wreckage, coughing, his body aching from the impact.
Val'katl lay beside him, still unconscious but alive.
Akashma groaned, pulling herself free, scanning the area.
They had landed near the river, in the marshlands where the quicksand made it difficult for larger war machines to follow.
For now, they had a moment to breathe.
Tlandar exhaled, gripping his ribs.
The battle was far from over.
But they had survived.
