"Space Teleportation!"
A burst of blue light enveloped Herb, and in an instant, he reappeared ten meters away, his body now fully intact.
"I'm fine!" Herb muttered in disbelief, his heart still racing. He had just narrowly avoided what felt like a death sentence. A glowing lantern had nearly appeared in front of him, signaling his impending demise, but at the last moment, a surge of force compelled him to teleport away from the danger.
"Good job, Herb, but now it's your turn, Daisy!" Lillian quickly acknowledged Herb's escape before signaling for the next move. Natasha seemed distracted, not paying attention to the group's strategy just yet.
Daisy's eyes glinted ice blue as she activated her power. A cold chill spread through the air, and the room's thermometer plummeted sharply. With a swift motion, she conjured three ice spikes, each about ten centimeters long, and hurled them at Natasha with remarkable speed.
"Is this your power? Impressive," Natasha remarked with a sly grin, her eyes glinting as she rapidly turned to face the attack. She caught two of the ice picks in mid-air with ease. The third was avoided with a subtle tilt of her head, causing the last ice spike to whiz harmlessly past her.
With a single squeeze of her hands, Natasha crushed the two ice spikes to the ground. "Nice try, but you're still too slow."
"Don't get too cocky!" Lillian snapped. Her enhanced physical strength, thanks to her fantasy species blessing, was her real advantage in this fight. Despite her small stature standing at just 1.6 meters Lillian was incredibly powerful, and underestimating her would be a mistake.
"Heb, let's go with the second set of tactics!" Lillian commanded, having already seen that Daisy's attacks were ineffective against Natasha. The first strategy had relied heavily on Daisy's ice abilities, but it was clear now they needed something more.
The second plan placed Lillian at the center, with the others supporting her in the fight. Herb's teleportation ability was crucial to keeping up with Natasha's speed, and without it, Lillian would struggle to land a blow.
"Space Teleportation!" Herb called again, extending his hand toward Lillian. In a flash of blue light, she was instantly transported directly in front of Natasha.
Teleports were impossible to predict without special equipment designed to measure spatial data. Even Natasha couldn't anticipate the move without advancing her own abilities. If she were to reach 85% of her mental capacity, she would have the power to manipulate both time and space, allowing her to see moments long past and predict future movements. But Natasha was far from needing such capabilities now.
"You want to face me?" Natasha muttered, unperturbed by the sudden change in position. She quickly advanced, delivering two powerful punches toward Lillian.
However, Longton having waited for this moment leapt in front of Natasha and took the brunt of the attack. His role had always been one of defense. Despite his lack of combat skills, he was determined to protect his teammates.
Longton's backstory was a tragic one. Growing up with domestic violence, he had learned to protect those he loved by absorbing blows rather than striking back. His father's regret over unintentionally killing his mother shaped Longton's resolve to be a shield, not a weapon. This instinct had carried over into his school years, where he excelled in protection and defense.
"You're tougher than I expected," Natasha remarked, surprised by Longton's resilience. She had thrown those punches with deliberate force her punches could easily pack more than ten tons of power, enough to crush an armored vehicle. Yet, Longton had absorbed it without injury, merely being pushed back.
"Woohoo! Got it!" Lillian shouted, seeing her opportunity. She launched herself into a direct kick aimed at Natasha's arm. The force of the blow sent Natasha tumbling backward, much to the team's surprise.
"We've got her on the ropes!" Lillian continued, her confidence soaring. This was the first time they'd managed to land a successful hit on Natasha.
"Now, let's lock her down!" Daisy added, using her ice powers once more. She created a large ice cage around Natasha's fall point, attempting to trap her.
However, the ice structure was only half the size it needed to be. Natasha wasn't even close to being contained.
"You think you've won? It's too early to celebrate," Natasha said, her voice calm and chilling.
Using her superior agility, Natasha completed an almost impossible recovery in mid-air, landing gracefully on the ground. Natasha wasn't just skilled in combat; her martial arts knowledge was extensive. After developing her mental abilities, she had returned to study various disciplines. As a result, she now possessed expertise in 23 different fighting styles, fluency in 127 languages, and mastery over numerous other skills, including art.
"Now, let me show you what a real fight looks like," Natasha announced, stretching her body with a sense of pride. The sound of cracking bones echoed through the room, sending a wave of fear down the spines of her opponents.
Fifteen Minutes Later...
"Everything's taken care of," Natasha said, brushing the dust off her hands as she wiped the sweat from her brow. The fight had been exhilarating, and she felt a rush she hadn't experienced in a long time.
Behind her, the four recruits lay unconscious on the floor, battered and bruised. Their faces were swollen, their bodies marked with the remnants of the brutal encounter.
"Did you have to go that far?" Kyle asked as Natasha walked into the room. He looked at her with wide eyes. It seemed she'd released a level of force that hadn't been seen from her in a while. Perhaps she had been holding back for too long and needed this outlet.
Natasha shrugged, unconcerned. "It's just a few scratches. I'll be fine in a couple of days. They'll be fine too. These kinds of injuries heal quickly for those of us with enhanced recovery abilities."
She grabbed a drink from the table and took a sip, clearly unfazed by the violence of the battle. The recruits, too, would heal in time. They had awakened their powers, after all, and their bodies had become more resilient.
