The morning sun spilled through the curtains of Zi Yan's apartment, casting a warm glow over the room. But inside, her heart was as cold as steel.
The internet was still in chaos. The scandal had flipped overnight. Instead of attacking her, people were now ripping Guo Bao and Wang Yin apart.
Her phone wouldn't stop buzzing.
She picked it up and scrolled through the trending posts.
"I take back everything I said about Zi Yan. She was framed! Guo Bao and Wang Yin are disgusting!"
"Wang Yin really thought she could get away with this?"
"This is karma. Zi Yan, you better rise stronger than ever!"
Zi Yan's lips curled into a satisfied smile.
But she knew this wasn't enough.
The entertainment industry was cruel. People loved to watch others fall, but they also had short memories. If she didn't act fast, this moment would pass, and she would still be left with a damaged career.
She had to strike while the iron was hot.
Just as she was thinking, her phone rang.
Her agent, Lin Qian.
"Zi Yan, the director of The Phoenix Rises just called me. He wants you to audition for the female lead role!"
Zi Yan sat up straight. "The same role that Wang Yin has been fighting for?"
"Yes," Lin Qian confirmed, excitement in her voice. "He said he wasn't sure before, but after seeing how strong you handled this scandal, he wants to see you perform."
Zi Yan's fingers tightened around her phone.
Wang Yin had stolen everything from her. Now, it was her turn to take back what was hers.
"When's the audition?"
"Tomorrow morning. You have one day to prepare."
Zi Yan took a deep breath.
"Tell the director I'll be there."
The next morning, Zi Yan arrived at the audition hall.
She stepped out of the car, dressed simply but elegantly. No heavy makeup, no extravagant clothes—just her natural beauty and sharp confidence.
As she walked in, whispers filled the air.
"That's Zi Yan! I thought she was finished after the scandal!"
"But she turned it around so fast! She might actually win this role!"
Wang Yin was already inside.
She sat in the waiting area, wearing an expensive designer dress, her expression filled with arrogance. But the moment she saw Zi Yan, her face twisted in shock.
"You? What are you doing here?"
Zi Yan smiled faintly. "Same as you. Auditioning."
Wang Yin's fingers curled around the script in her hand. "You think they'll give you this role? You're nothing but a scandal-ridden has-been."
Zi Yan leaned closer, lowering her voice. "Then why do you look so nervous?"
Wang Yin's jaw clenched, but before she could reply, the assistant director called out, "Zi Yan, you're up next."
Zi Yan straightened and walked into the audition room with steady steps.
The director, a well-known veteran in the industry, sat behind the long table, watching her with sharp eyes. Beside him were several investors, including a few familiar faces—people who had once supported Guo Bao.
She took her place in the center of the room.
"Are you ready?" the director asked.
Zi Yan nodded. "Yes."
"Start."
The scene she had to perform was an emotional one. The female lead had been betrayed by the man she loved, and in this moment, she was letting go of her past, vowing to rise stronger.
Zi Yan took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and when she opened them, her expression had changed.
Her eyes filled with sorrow, but there was also strength—a quiet, burning determination.
She spoke her lines, her voice trembling with emotion.
"I gave you my heart. I believed in you. But now, I see the truth." She took a shaky breath. "You never deserved my love. And from this moment on… I will never shed another tear for you."
Silence filled the room.
Even the director seemed momentarily stunned.
Then, he nodded. "That was… powerful."
The investors exchanged glances, clearly impressed.
Zi Yan held her breath as the director turned to his assistants and whispered something.
After a few moments, he looked back at her.
"You have the role."
Zi Yan's heart pounded. She had done it.
She had won.
As she walked out of the room, Wang Yin shot to her feet. "Well? What did they say?"
Zi Yan smiled, her eyes gleaming with victory. "Looks like you'll have to find another project, Wang Yin."
Wang Yin's face turned pale. "No… That's impossible!"
Zi Yan turned away, walking out with confidence.
For the first time since her downfall, she felt like herself again.
But she knew this was just the beginning.
She had taken back a small piece of what she lost.
Now, it was time to take everything.
Later that afternoon, Lin Qian called her again.
"The production team wants to hold a press conference tomorrow. They want you to attend and officially announce that you got the role."
Zi Yan smirked. "Perfect."
The next day, the venue was packed with reporters. Cameras flashed, microphones extended toward her as soon as she arrived.
The moment she stepped onto the stage, dressed in a sleek white dress that highlighted her elegance, the crowd erupted.
"Zi Yan! How does it feel to take the female lead role after the scandal?"
"Do you have anything to say to Wang Yin and Guo Bao?"
"Some people still doubt your acting skills. What do you say to them?"
Zi Yan took the microphone, her gaze calm but sharp.
"First of all, I'm honored to be chosen for The Phoenix Rises. This is a role I've dreamed of playing, and I will give it my all."
She paused, letting her words sink in.
"As for the scandal… the truth is already out. I was framed, but I refuse to be defined by someone else's lies." Her voice turned firm. "I will prove myself with my work. Not words, not gossip—only results."
The reporters exchanged glances. Zi Yan's confidence was undeniable.
She wasn't just surviving.
She was rising.
As the press conference ended, Lin Qian rushed over, eyes sparkling.
"Zi Yan, the public's reaction is amazing! Your fanbase is growing again, and the production team is thrilled!"
Zi Yan smiled. "Good. This is just the beginning."
Her phone buzzed. A message from an unknown number.
"Congratulations. But be careful. Not everyone will accept your rise."
Zi Yan's smile didn't fade.
She knew this wasn't the end of her battles.
If someone wanted to challenge her, she was ready.
Because this time, she wouldn't lose.
