Chapter 4 Trial and Error

I walked into my new classroom, it was a simple classroom with no windows. It honestly looked more like a prison than a classroom, even the desks were older than the desks in other classrooms.

The moment I stepped in everyones eyes slightly shifted towards me. I noticed it, but I also noticed how they all refrained from turning to look at me. Which means they're used to people coming in and failing miserably at assassinating this guy. He must be good at what he does.

I immediately scan the room for my target. He knew everyone in his class was tryna kill him so while he had yet to notice me I wanted the gift of surprise.

Then I noticed him walking back to his desk. But he didn't sit down and he hadn't noticed me. I smiled at how easy it would be.

Going against the principlals orders to learn first, I threw one of my many knives at him. He dodged of course, but then he hit a spin move, grabbing the knife and throwing it at my face. I couldn't dodge it! I should've thrown it faster, but hell even if I did given how fast he just moved it wouldn't be enough. I did what I could but I clearly underestimated my opponent. This might be the end of me.

Snapping from my thoughts I swing my hand palm first attempting to either catch or knock the kunai off course. As my hand collided with the kunai it shifted slightly and flung past my head, though not before leaving a long gash across my palm.

"Hello Kamelio, find a seat now while I am still feeling patient." He said casually spinning a kunai along his pinky finger.

Refusing to respond I ran straight for him, grabbing a random desk to my left i chucked it at him while cutting to the right behind his desk so I could potentially bcatch him off guard with my next attack.

As he pushed the desk aside midair I threw a roundhouse kick to his head. I smiled at the thought of succeeding in my mission so soon, only to be disappointed when he caught my foot midair.

"I see, you're the hardheaded type, but you have talent. For now you get to live." He stated with an expressionless face before striking me repeatedly.

*BANG*

*BANG*

*BANG*

"All this talent wasted on a knucklehead." He shook his head before looking at me with a hint of pity his eyes. "I guess someone needed to knock some sense into you."

He smiled evilly before picking me up and throwing me into a wall. I smacked it hard groaning in pain, but I looked at him refusing to admit defeat. Even so, I was hurt, I knew I would need a second to sleep before I could truly continue fighting.

"Still awake? Why are you fighting so hard? What do you fight for? Do you even know?" He stated in a domineering fashion casually walking towards me. "You lost because you fight without reason, like a soldier you let someone else do the thinking for you. Take some time to think about that." He started running towards me suddenly, his increase in speed was not a good sign.

He kicked at me aiming for my stomach, but I was too tired to defend, I could only watch as it got closer until everything went black.

—————-A Few Hours Later——————

I woke up a few hours later in the classrooms infirmary. I guess they put one here for the students just in case he spared one of us, or maybe it's to ensure he doesn't kill any of us?

My head was pounding, but I had to take a moment to at least survey the room. It was a typical looking doctors office really, but they had two doors at the far end of the room. One said the word Deceased Documentation, the other simply said EXIT. At least they document when someone dies here.

The thoughts that were coursing through my head in that final moment made it seem like I was going to die. Although, I obviously know im still breathing now. I'm glad to still be alive, lucky even.

He could've easily taken my life, yet he let me keep it, and I was grateful, even with the massive headache.

"Did you learn something from that encounter?" My target said as if he was as old as dirt. He was suddenly speaking to me like a grandfather would speak to his son. It was throwing me off why he was being so nice. I literally just tried to kill him.

"All I learned was I can't go easy on you. If I do I'll die before your funeral." I said coldly locking eyes with him. Despite the strength he had already shown me I wasn't scared of him. I knew how much strength I needed to surpass my target now.

"Typical teenagers." He said not caring at all and leaving.

"Well your head is all patched up. You will have a huge scar there for who knows how long but you'll be ok. You're free to go." The doctor said all at once while coming in.

"K." I said already leaving the room. There were many other nurses in the dorm but most of them were walking and talking. I'm guessing most of the students who come here are severly injured or dead so they do paperwork and then have plenty of free time.

I walked to the front door following the exit signs and left quickly.

My new class was just off campus but I was headed back to my dorm which was on campus. However my target stopped me just outside of campus.

"Kamelio right?" He asked without a care in the world. "Look, I want to teach you how to control your immense power. You have so much power and so much potential but you're using it so unwisely. You losing control has already led to you killing seven people and a teacher. Assassins kill yeah, but those were brutal fights gone wrong, not missions."

I looked at him out of the corner of my eye skeptical, "I'll let you teach me for now."

"There's no need to be so hostile, Kamelio. I am your teacher after all." He said smiling for once. I didn't quite understand how he could smile considering he's teaching someone who will kill him someday, even if it's not me. I guess he really is as carefree as he looks.

"How do you do it? Teaching a whole classroom of people who are trying to kill you? Aren't you afraid one of them will become proficient in what you teach and it'll backfire? Unless of course, you're just too powerful to even consider losing to a teenager." I said probing him for answers, sometimes it's good to know your enemy. Besides I really was curious. Why does he do this?

"I've been doing this for years. I'm numb to it." He said as if his life meant little to nothing in his eyes. "Be sure to behave in class tomorrow."

He walked off leaving me with more questions than answers. But in that moment I had already made my mind up. I would definitely complete my mission, no matter the cost.

————The Next Day———————-

When I entered class the next day I sat down and listened to my target, taking everything in. The bloodlust I felt was overwhelming, but after he taught me to control my power as an assassin he was through.

"Are you listening to me, Kamelio?" The teacher asked me.

"Sure whatever." I responded just wanting to do my mission and leave this place. I still had challengers on campus who wanted to fight me, I'm sure. Or another mission with fewer rules. Either way, he was slowing me down.

At the end of the day he was destined to die, what could he teach me?

"Kamelio, how do you normally start to use your true power as a demon or shadow assassin?" He asked inquisitively, clearly probing for information, but it didn't matter.

"Im both remember." I replied slightly irritated. "Just teach me how to control my emotions so I can kill you and be done with it."

"Well if I was a demon assassin I could teach you in your sleep. But I'm not, so you'll have to learn regularly." He said, laughing and walking towards me.

"If you don't just start this freaking training I will stab you and leave." I replied glaring at him with anger.

"Did you not learn from your mistake when you first met me? I bet that girl would have. If you hadn't killed her." He smiled at me leaning in towards me, that damned smile! A smile of arrogancy and belittling, I knew what it meant. He didn't even consider me a threat. He mocked me publicly and considered me irrelevant.

"She got in the way and took the blow for my enemy. Her fault entirely!" I yelled, barely able to contain myself.

"Her fault? You stabbed her, remember? AND, you were the one who savagely killed her boyfriend a few minutes later if memory serves. You even murdered a teacher right after that!" He said looking up as if he was thinking about it. But he was clearly just taunting me.

"Shut up." I said through gritted teeth trying to maintain a level of self-control.

"Is that what you told that girl before you killed her?" He asked, goading me on.

Unfortunately for him, it worked. I lost control and my features started changing. Taking on the form of a demon assassin.

"I told you to shut up didn't I?" I mockingly asked him, grinning widely.

"Do you know how demon, king, and shadow assassins even came to be?" He nonchalantly said most likely trying to distract me.

"It all started back in the 90s. This guy wanted to make assassins that would protect him. But he was so nice and emotionally wrecked he didn't want his guards to die. He wanted them to be immortal. He tried the shadow one first. It looked like a success. Until he tested it and he killed the assassin. Then he tried the king one but dismissed that entirely because king assassins needed protection. Then he tried demon assassins which were an actual success. Both in strength and immortality." He said looking kinda intellectual.

"What really." I asked calming down.

"Nope, all of that was absolute bullshit." He smiled at me before laughing again and pointing at me. "I can't believe you fell for that!"

"Wha…" I was shocked. Yet somewhere deep down. I expected it.

"In reality there were three kings, this of course was before the 3 kingdoms became one after the war. One king was a proud king and so he made his assassins in a way to where they would have assassins. Feeling as if it was below his assassins to even have to fight. They took on the name of the modern day king assassins. There were regular assassins already so those guys were considered the king assassin's guards. You paying attention?" He asked stopping and looking back over his shoulder at me.

"Yeah, im listening, this is interesting." I leaned forward clearly intrigued by the lesson.

"There was another king who had black as a favorite color and loved nighttime because it was peaceful. However he also took notice of how much crime was commited at nightime. So he made shadow assassins, though not all of them are as committed to the greater good as they're supposed to be. Lastly one of those kings had red for a favorite color so he was tryna make assassins like the shadow assassins but red. He planned to call them Violet Vissionaries, aiming to be different from the other two kings. " He went behind his desk and pulled out a stick gesturing to the board. It suddenly began showing images of some monster, it looked horrific, yet familiar.

"Unfortunately there was this demon who was haunting this king. It's suspected it was due to a coup he staged in order to get his kingship. Anyway, it possessed the volunteer. So when he was given the power, the demon became one with the volunteer amplifying their power and making the colors black and red as a result." He said stopping the projection.

"If that's true why can't I control myself?" I asked since I had a gut-feeling that it was important.

"You haven't learned how to handle your power correctly. All you need to do is participate and complete an assassination task." He said yawning and checking his watch, it was getting pretty late.

"But I've completed one already! It was like 2 years ago or something" I protested.

"Your power wasn't active at that time." He told me as if he was there.

"Will you be that person then? I have been hired to kill you." I asked, praying he would, I've already fought him seriously. After that loss I understand my only hope is for him to hold back just enough for me to take him out.

"We'll fight tomorrow. That'll be your chance." Then he yawned again. "Teaching all of you has worn me out. For now class is dismissed."
