Meeting An Old Crush

Emmanuel was currently seated on the third chair in the sitting room. He was on a day off today. Mrs Amarachi had awarded him this day off after taking note of the unusual large earnings he had been making for her of recent. This was a record non of her other workers had been able to break, and so she felt Emmanuel deserved at least a form of reward. Not only to thank him for his consistency but to encourage the other workers also. She also gave him quite a reasonable amount. It was for him to use to flex on his day off.

" Since you are going to be free today, why not come to the shop to help me later in the day " Favour suddenly spoke out. On hearing Favour's words, a frown was first developed on Emmanuel face, but soon it returned back to a smile. The change of face expression was fast enough to make sure that neither of his parent noticed it. " Of course I will " Emmanuel replied.

The frown that was birthed on Emmanuel face wasn't out of disrespect or anything of that sort. He was just a little bit shocked on the new development as he had already previously made relaxing plans for the day. He planned to first rest for a long while after his parent left the house. And then after a while, he would go to a nearby store and buy noodles, sardine, bread and eggs with some other ingredient he would use to cook the noodles and fry the eggs. This goodies were for him to host a personal celebration of his admission. The next thing he planned to do was to go a nearby field to play ball for a bit of a while. Even though he was not that adept in playing football, he still wished to experience it a bit as he wasn't sure whether he might have that time at the university. Once he felt tired of playing football, he could then go to a play station shop to play ps3. That was his high class plans for the day. So he was just kind of cut off when he was told to go to his mom's shop.

' I guess all plans cancelled then ' Emmanuel said. He knew that even though his mom had said * Later in the day *, but she definitely didn't mean that. That was just the typical African parent style. If he were to reach there anytime past 12.o'clock, he would be met with the frowning face of his mother.

Soon his dad and mom left the house, and then an hour or two after, he too left the house for his mom's shop. In no time he got downstairs, and then outside the gate. He boarded a tricycle that was passing by which took him straight to the bus-stop closest to his mom's shop. This was actually also the bus-stop where he was usually dropped whenever he boarded a bike to go to his work. The only different was that the place the tricycles stopped and loaded was a few metres or maybe even kilometres from where bikes loaded. Therefore the tricycle park was farther than even his madam's shop. Though the tricycle still had it's advantages as it was cheaper.

Soon he was dropped as the park. The park was close to an expressway, and Favour's shop was just across the expressway. After settling the tricycle driver with a 200 naira note, and collecting a 50 naira note as his change, Emmanuel immediately walked towards the express way and then crossed it.

In no time, Emmanuel had already gotten to Favour's shop. On getting there, he was greeted by so many people. Those who he was close with greeted him with a sincere smile why the fake ones just kept on talking non-stop to him after greeting him.

He immediately found a way to detach himself from the little crowd. He proceeded to go into the line where his mom main store was. On getting there, he didn't immediately walk into the shop. He instead started walking to the shop closed to the shop. He felt it had been quite long, and therefore it wouldn't make sense to visit and then say no words of greetings to the neighbours he was familiar with.

On getting to the first shop which was the shop right beside Favour's. This shop belonged to not only his market neighbour, but also a children teacher in the church. Considering the fact that he had known her from the moment he was little as she was in charge of taking care of him and other kids during Sunday school, he felt she should be the first he should greet.

Getting to the shop, it wasn't the face he expected to see that he saw. Instead of an aged fair slightly fat woman, he was instead greeted with the sight of an African-fair-petite young lady who was slightly tall, but still nowhere near Emmanuel height. She looked to be somewhere around Emmanuel's age.

She was currently on her feat. She seemed to be searching for something on the shelf. Noticing the figure at the front of her shop, the girl turned her eye to take a look, and then their eyes met. It was as if time had paused for a slight moment. " Peace " Emmanuel suddenly muttered a name.
