Chapter 54 — As Everyone Knows, Dragon-Type Trainers Don't Use Dragons

Time quickly moved into the afternoon.

As a Champion-level Gym Leader, Raihan hadn't been challenged by anyone in a long time.

Therefore, when news broke that the Fighting Gym would hold a Gym Challenge, it immediately attracted a large crowd of spectators who bought tickets.

"As expected of Raihan, Galar's second-ranked Gym Leader, attracting so many spectators at once."

In the bustling spectator stands, Sonia worriedly said:

"With so many people watching, if Marnie loses, it will probably be quite a blow to her."

"That girl isn't so fragile, just watch and see."

Sitting next to Sonia, Sun Wuming seemed quite enthusiastic.

It was his first time watching a Gym Challenge in person.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Fighting Gym!"

The announcer at the top of the stands shouted at the top of his lungs:

"First, let me welcome our challenger for this Gym Challenge, from Spikemuth—Marnie!!!"

Confetti rained down over the spectator stands, and hidden jets at the player entrance sprayed colorful mist for dramatic effect.

Marnie walked out slowly with an expressionless face amid the crowd's cheers.

Many male spectators cheered even louder when they saw Marnie's pure and alluring face on the big screen.

"It's flashy, but I like it."

Sun Wuming couldn't help but laugh.

After all, who doesn't like showing off?

Even as someone from another world, Sun Wuming had to admit that Rose really knew how to put on a show.

Making the Gym Challenge feel like a talent show.

Though flashy, most people couldn't help but love this style.

The announcer called out again:

"Next up is our heavyweight! He has challenged the undefeated Champion Leon the most times and defeated the most of Leon's Pokémon, ranking second among all trainers in the Galar League!"

"Countless people say that if he went to other regions, he'd immediately become Champion, but from start to finish, his only goal has been to defeat Leon!"

"Let's all shout his name together!"

As the announcer continued to hype up the atmosphere.

Countless spectators in the stands stood up and shouted:

"The Dragon's Storm, Raihan!!!"

At the other end of the player tunnel.

A tall man over 190 centimeters with tanned skin and a bright smile, his left hand in his pocket, took out a Rotom Phone with his right hand for a selfie, then strolled over to Marnie.

"Yo~ hello there, kid. You've got guts challenging me, I'll give you that."

Raihan said with a grin.

After observing Marnie for a moment, Raihan continued:

"You're from Spikemuth, right? You know, that outfit reminds me of someone. I had quite the battle with him at last year's Star Tournament."

"...Let's begin."

Marnie said impassively.

She knew the person Raihan was talking about was her brother, Piers.

But Marnie didn't want to ride on her brother's coattails.

Besides, she had run away from home after arguing with Piers.

Seeing Marnie turn away, Raihan shrugged and didn't mind, also turning to walk to his side of the battlefield.

"The match rules are 1v1, the first to lose their battling ability loses, and the Gym Leader moves first."

The referee, standing behind an Aegislash, explained the rules before raising the flags in both hands.

"Now, let the match begin!"

"Go, Sandaconda!"

Raihan threw out his Poké Ball with a fierce grin.

Going first is usually disadvantageous, as the second player can choose a Pokémon that counters your type.

Seeing the coiled snake-like Pokémon land on Raihan's side, Sun Wuming raised an eyebrow:

"A Dragon-type trainer using a Ground-type?"

It reminded him of that Flying-type Elite Four member in Kanto who called himself a Dragon Tamer.

Well, as everyone knows, Dragon-type trainers don't use Dragons.

"Sandaconda is Raihan's weakest Pokémon. He must have roughly gauged Marnie's strength to make this choice."

Sonia chimed in from the side.

"This is troublesome."

Sun Wuming raised an eyebrow, knowing that Marnie was planning to send out Morpeko, an Electric-type mouse.

Sure enough, even seeing that Raihan had sent out a Ground-type, Marnie had no choice but to send out her Morpeko.

"Oh? Even seeing my Ground-type Sandaconda, you're still going with an Electric-type?"

Raihan was also taken aback.

Just then, a deep purple light burst from Marnie's right wrist as she raised her hand to recall Morpeko with its Poké Ball.

"What's that?"

Sun Wuming raised an eyebrow slightly.

"Galar's specialty—Dynamax."

Sonia smiled slightly, thinking she'd finally found something this guy hadn't seen before.

With a somewhat smug look on her face, she said:

"Just watch and see."
