CHAPTER 38

Chapter 38: A Night of Reckoning

The city was alive with lights, yet beneath its glittering skyline, danger lurked in the shadows. Alexander knew this night would change everything. It was the night he would end Langford's reign once and for all.

But as he stood in his penthouse, watching Isabella move gracefully across the room, a part of him wished he could freeze time. The way her silk dress clung to her curves, the way her eyes held unwavering trust—it made his heart clench.

She walked toward him, sensing his inner turmoil. "You're leaving soon, aren't you?"

He exhaled deeply, cupping her face. "I have to. This is the last move, Bella. After this, you'll never have to look over your shoulder again."

Her fingers brushed over his lips. "Just promise me you'll come back."

He caught her hand, pressing a lingering kiss to her palm. "Nothing in this world can keep me from you."

But as he kissed her deeply, memorizing the taste of her lips, he knew one thing—tonight, he had to win. Because failure was not an option.

A Dangerous Game

At the docks, Langford's men stood in formation, their eyes darting around in paranoia. The tension in the air was suffocating as Langford checked his watch.

"He's late," one of his men muttered.

Langford smirked, unbothered. "Alexander wouldn't miss this. He's too predictable."

But what Langford didn't realize was that Alexander had been two steps ahead all along.

From a hidden vantage point, Alexander watched through the scope of his rifle, his heartbeat steady. He wasn't here for negotiations. He was here to end a war.

Ethan's voice crackled in his earpiece. "We've cut off all exits. They're trapped."

Alexander smirked. "Then let's send our greetings."

With a silent signal, his men moved.

Gunfire erupted as chaos unfolded. Langford's men scrambled, but they had nowhere to run.

In the midst of it all, Alexander advanced, his movements precise, ruthless. Langford was his target, and nothing would stand in his way.

A Love That Withstood Fire

Back at the penthouse, Isabella paced the room, her heart pounding. Every second felt like an eternity.

She hated this. The waiting. The helplessness.

Then the door burst open.

Her breath caught as Alexander stepped inside, bruised and battle-worn, but alive.

She ran to him, throwing her arms around his neck. "You're back," she whispered against his skin.

His hands gripped her tightly. "I told you—I'll always come back to you."

She pulled back, cupping his face, tears shimmering in her eyes. "Is it over?"

He nodded. "Langford is finished."

A shaky breath left her lips before she pressed her forehead to his. "Then hold me. Just hold me."

And he did.

Because no matter how much blood had been spilled, no matter how many battles had been fought, this—she—was the only thing that mattered.

To be continued…
