Diana's scream echoed through the restroom, and Joanne panicked.
"Diana! Keep your voice down!" she hissed, glancing at the door, afraid someone might hear.
But Diana was beyond reason.
She grabbed Joanne's shoulders, shaking her dramatically. "Are you insane?! You married Alexander King?!"
Joanne groaned, prying Diana's hands off her. "Would you calm down?"
"Calm down?" Diana's hands flew to her head. "Joanne, you just casually dropped the biggest bombshell of the century! You—you married the heir of the King family?! The CEO of King Multinational?!"
Joanne sighed, leaning against the sink. "I know, okay? It wasn't planned. It just… happened."
Diana folded her arms, still in disbelief. "You don't just 'accidentally' marry Alexander freakin' King."
Joanne hesitated, then finally told her everything—how Jason had betrayed her, how her father had threatened to cut her off, and how she had met Alexander that night at the restaurant.
Diana's mouth hung open. "So… let me get this straight. You saw a man get dumped, then proposed to him on the spot?"
Joanne winced. "When you say it like that, it sounds crazy."
Diana dramatically gestured. "That's because it is crazy!" She took a deep breath, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Okay, okay. I need a moment."
Joanne watched as her best friend paced back and forth, mumbling to herself.
After a long pause, Diana turned to her. "Wait… so this is a contract marriage?"
Joanne nodded. "Six months. Then we go our separate ways."
Diana squinted. "Six months?" She scoffed. "You really think a man like Alexander King does anything without a deeper reason?"
Joanne hesitated. She had asked herself that question many times.
Diana sighed, rubbing her temples. "And let me guess… you don't know much about him, do you?"
Joanne bit her lip. "Not really."
Diana groaned. "Joanne, you married a man you barely know! A dangerous man, at that!"
Joanne frowned. "He's not—"
Diana raised a brow. "Oh, really? Then why does his name make grown men tremble? Why does he never show his face in public? And why is there zero information about his private life?"
Joanne stiffened.
Diana leaned in, lowering her voice. "Jo, something's not right. You need to be careful."
Joanne swallowed hard. She knew Diana was right.
Because deep down…
She had a feeling Alexander King was hiding something.
And she needed to find out.
At the end of work Joanne decided to go to the hospital to see her mother.
Ken and keleb was with her all through.
