Lost Lands [3]

Void walked throughout the day. The sun began to set and with it, the nightmares slowly stopped appearing. However, the young man was upset...

"Shit..." he said looking ahead. A dark forest in front of him, the trees were incredibly tall and thin, their branches branched at the heights making creepy shapes. The weak rays of the evening sun were still there, however inside the forest it was already dark.

Void turned around. 'No way... Of all the places I had to get to this one.' he thought annoyed, walking quickly.

The reason he wanted to get away from that place was because the letter mentioned the Cursed Forest. 'However you look at it this looks like it's cursed.'

"Wow... Hahaha" a calm but undoubtedly annoying voice to Void's ears was heard. "The reason it's called the Cursed Forest is because you can't leave the same way you came in..."

Void swiftly drew his katana and spun, slashing with every intention of killing.

"Stop."

The young man's arm remained motionless, with no option to move.

"Have you mistaken me for a nightmare?" asked a young man with blond hair; it was Kaiser.

"No," Void replied, a grimace of hatred on his face.

Kaiser placed his hand on his chin, thoughtful. "Is he hallucinating?" He then brought his hand to his forehead. "No... He must be tired..."

Void gritted his teeth, annoyed by the young man's attitude. It was a feeling only the defeated felt, the feeling of not being enough to face even those you hate. Furthermore, the fact that he had forgotten the reason for his anger made it even worse.

"Leave me," Void emphasized. Soon his body was no longer stiff. With the bittersweet feeling of another defeat, he sheathed his katana.

He began walking through the forest, looking for a way out. Void preferred to be surrounded by thousands of nightmares than to continue with Kaiser.

Even so, Kaiser began following him from behind. "Our lair isn't that way," he said with useless confidence.

Void stopped. His hand around the katana tightened. "What part of leaving me alone don't you understand?"

The young blond man dropped his head slightly to one side. "But you came to join our group. Why would I leave you alone?"

Void snorted. "I didn't want to come; I only ended up here because of bad luck."

"With the whole continent out there, you just end up here?" Kaiser said, confused.

'I wondered the same thing myself...' Void thought, admitting Kaiser's words. "Look, I'm not interested in making groups, I prefer to do things alone. So just tell me the way out." he said trying to stay calm.

"I see... You have to turn left and go straight." Kaiser answered, now with seriousness in his words.

Void after hearing the words quickly tried to get away. With lightened steps he walked between the dry leaves of the forest.

There was a moment of silence, Void walked away and Kaiser just seemed to watch him.

Kaiser chuckled. "Oops... I think that was on the right." Void seemed to fall underground.

Void descended a dirt slide. The darkness surrounded him and due to how narrow it was, he constantly collided with the walls, causing the dirt to fall on him.

After a few long seconds of falling, Void reached the end of the slide, landing on his ass on a stone surface. He landed on his head.

"Damn..." And before he could finish his words, he received a strong blow to his head.

"Why were you still sitting there!" Kaiser shouted, scratching his butt in pain.

Void's face was filled with veins that were close to exploding. He began to suppress Kaiser with a large amount of words, most of which would be better if they were not described.

"..."

Kaiser was stunned, his face began to darken, as if he was sorry. "Well... It's not that I really care how you feel, right?"

Void held his head and began to breathe in and out. "Please, just get away from me." he asked calmly.

"Unfortunately I can't, to get out of this place we have to clean it. It's a ruin that we've tried to avoid but what can we do... we're already inside." explained the young blond man, this time in a serious manner.

The ruins are the name that has been given to the dungeons of the Lost Lands, because these strangely came to represent monuments of antiquity on Earth. Although they only appeared in cases where the nightmares were incredibly powerful, something that didn't seem to be the case.

However, Void wondered, why a group as strong as The Resistance avoided this place?

Kaiser, as if he had read his mind, answered:

"We have tried to avoid this ruin because..." he continued the mystery. "...We didn't want to get dirty with the dirt when descending here..."

'I imagined it...' Void thought, letting out a sigh.

Kaiser began to walk into the ruin. "It seems that for some reason you avoid me, but if you want to get out you must cooperate."

It was something that was unthinkable for Void, however it was something he could not deny, he had to get out of this place.

Both young men began to walk down the long corridor of the ruin. It was lit with torches that let out a strange blue fire, the walls of a cracked stone seemed about to collapse.

A cold breeze hit their faces, although breathing became difficult the further they got from that hole through which they had fallen.

"There are six nightmares in front of us about two meters away, they seem to be camouflaged in the walls." said Kaiser without taking his gaze away from the front. He analyzed the situation cautiously.

"I'm going to run forward, the nightmares will attack me at once, fighting to hunt me down. At that moment, kill them." he ordered.

"Why should I?" Void asked, however, by that moment Kaiser had already shot forward.

After a small moment of silence, where only the young man's accelerated footsteps echoed through the hallway. Just as he had mentioned, six nightmares jumped out of the walls to kill him.

Void didn't have to help him, that man was capable of killing them easily. Why would he need his help? But, what if he can only control one enemy at a time? Void had to be the first and only one to defeat Kaiser.

With his strength and speed doubled six times, in the blink of an eye the nightmares had been cut off.

Kaiser fell silent. "...Wow... I didn't expect you to actually help me." he said, a smile appearing on his face.

There was no response. Void entered the hallway. "Just act as bait and shut up."

The smile on the young blond man's face didn't disappear. "Yeah, yeah, whatever," he said as he also walked inside.

...

Applying the same technique a few times, they quickly reached the end of the hallway, where a huge door awaited, its appearance simple metallic, without any special decoration.

'I guess not all of them are important...' Void thought, looking at the door curiously.

The door began to open slowly, the air inside rushing out. Both young men walked inside without showing any concern.

The surroundings were dark, and unlike other times, no light seemed to turn on no matter how far they went.

They stopped. Void's heart felt warm; that was the feeling his second ability gave him by doubling his power.

"There's someone here." Void warned, trying to find some bright spot in the room.

"I know." Kaiser answered calmly. "It seems to be a nightmare adapted to the darkness... To your left."

Void did not understand that mix of words, but instinctively covered his left side. TCHIIING! Something was rubbing Void's katana intensely, letting out sparks.

After a few seconds, that intense and powerful rubbing stopped. Void pulled himself together.

Suddenly the silence was interrupted, it was a strange sound as if something was dragging itself along the ground with force. But one thing was certain, it was getting closer.

Void, who was looking around, observed the outside of the door. 'The torches...' he thought. "Exchange." The torch exchanged places with a small stone that was under it.

With speed Void grabbed the torch and placed it in front of him. What he could find in front of him was the wide mouth of a huge snake in front of him.

Its giant fangs were close to crushing him in moments. It was too late to react.

'Shit...'
