Hawk's eyes locked onto the rearview mirror as he floored it, weaving through the crowded streets.
Aria's heart pounded in her chest as she glanced over her shoulder, seeing the sleek black SUVs closing in on them.
Nova's eyes narrowed as he pulled out his phone, dialing a number. "We need backup, now."
Hawk's jaw clenched as he took a sharp turn, the tires screeching in protest. "Hold on."
Aria's knuckles were white as she gripped the door handle, her eyes fixed on the SUVs closing in on them.
Suddenly, Nova's phone beeped, and he answered, listening intently. "Alright, got it."
Hawk's eyes locked onto Nova's. "What's the plan?"
Nova's expression was grim. "We've got a window of 5 minutes before backup arrives. We need to lose them."
Aria's eyes scanned the streets, looking for an escape route. And then, she saw it - a narrow alleyway between two buildings.
Hawk's eyes locked onto hers, and he nodded. "Alright, let's do it."
With a screech of tires, Hawk turned into the alleyway, the SUVs hot on their heels.
Aria's heart pounded in her chest as they sped through the alleyway, the walls blurring together.
They emerged into a crowded marketplace, the stalls and vendors scattering as they sped through.
Hawk's eyes locked onto the rearview mirror, and he grinned. "I think we lost them."
Aria's shoulders sagged in relief as Nova let out a breath. "Nice driving, Hawk."
But as they slowed to a stop, Aria's eyes locked onto a figure watching them from the shadows.
A figure with piercing blue eyes and a ruthless grin.
Aria's heart sank as she realized they weren't out of the game yet.
Not by a long shot.
Hawk's eyes narrowed as he followed Aria's gaze. "We've got company."
Nova's hand instinctively went to his gun. "Let's get out of here."
But as they turned to leave, Aria felt a hand on her shoulder.
She spun around, her eyes locking onto the figure.
"Welcome to the game," he said, his voice dripping with malice.
Aria's heart pounded in her chest as she tried to shake off the feeling of unease.
Who was this guy? And what did he want?
Hawk's eyes locked onto the figure, his expression tense. "Who are you?"
The figure smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "My name is Ryker. And I'm here to make sure you play by the rules."
Aria's eyes narrowed. "What rules?"
Ryker's smile grew wider. "The rules of the game. You see, you're not just fighting against Vex. You're fighting against the entire system."
Nova's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"
Ryker's expression turned serious. "The system is designed to keep people like you in line. People who ask too many questions, who seek too much power."
Aria's heart sank as she realized the truth. They were in over their heads.
But she refused to back down. She refused to give up.
Hawk's eyes locked onto hers, and he nodded. "We're not going to back down."
Ryker's smile grew wider. "I didn't think you would."
And with that, he turned and disappeared into the crowd.
Leaving Aria, Hawk, and Nova to wonder what they had just gotten themselves into.
