Aria's heart was still racing as they emerged from the alleyway, gasping for air. The fire was raging behind them, consuming everything in its path.
Hawk's eyes were scanning the rooftops, his expression grim. "We need to get out of here, now," he said, his voice low and urgent.
Aria nodded, her mind reeling with questions. Who had set the fire? And what did they want?
As they ran through the streets, Aria's phone suddenly buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out, her heart skipping a beat as she saw the text message on the screen.
"Meet me at the old warehouse at midnight," the message read. "Come alone."
Aria's eyes widened as she showed the message to Hawk. "What does it mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Hawk's expression was grim. "I don't know, but we're not going to find out by going to that meeting alone."
Aria nodded, her heart racing with anticipation. She knew that they had to be careful, but she also knew that they couldn't ignore the message.
As they made their way to the warehouse, Aria's senses were on high alert. She knew that they were walking into a trap, but she also knew that they had to take the risk.
As they approached the warehouse, Aria saw a figure waiting for them in the shadows.
It was Nova.
Aria's heart skipped a beat as Nova emerged from the darkness, his eyes locked onto hers.
"I'm sorry, Aria," Nova said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I didn't mean to hurt you. But I had no choice."
Aria's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice firm but controlled.
Nova hesitated, his eyes darting back and forth. "I was forced to work with Ruby," he said finally. "But I didn't know what she was planning. I swear, Aria, I didn't know."
Aria's heart was racing with uncertainty. Could she trust Nova?
And then, just as she was about to make a decision, a loud noise echoed through the warehouse.
Aria's world went dark as she stumbled to the ground.
When she came to, she was lying in a hospital bed, surrounded by Hawk and Vex.
"Aria, you've been hurt," Hawk said, his voice low and urgent. "You need to rest."
Aria's eyes widened as she struggled to sit up. "What happened?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Vex's expression was grim. "Nova was working with Ruby," he said. "But it looks like he was playing both sides. He helped us escape from the fire, but then he disappeared."
Aria's heart was racing with questions. What had happened to Nova? And what did Ruby want?
As she lay there, trying to piece together the puzzle, Aria knew that she had to get out of the hospital.
She had to find Nova, and she had to stop Ruby.
But as she threw off the covers and swung her legs over the side of the bed, Aria felt a wave of dizziness wash over her.
She stumbled, falling back onto the bed.
Hawk's eyes locked onto hers, his expression grim. "Aria, you can't get up," he said. "You're hurt."
Aria's heart was racing with frustration. She knew that she had to get out of the hospital, but she also knew that she couldn't do it alone.
As she lay there, trying to come up with a plan, Aria heard a faint noise coming from outside the room.
It sounded like footsteps.
Aria's heart skipped a beat. Who was it?
And then, just as she was about to find out, the door burst open, and a figure strode into the room.
It was Ruby.
Aria's eyes widened in shock as Ruby's eyes locked onto hers.
"You're a hard woman to kill," Ruby said, her voice dripping with malice. "But I'm not going to make the same mistake again."
Aria's heart was racing with fear. She knew that she was in grave danger.
But as she looked into Ruby's eyes, Aria saw something there that made her pause.
She saw a glimmer of desperation.
Ruby was scared, Aria realized. She was scared of being caught, of being brought to justice.
And in that moment, Aria knew that she had the upper hand.
She knew that she could use Ruby's desperation against her.
But as she opened her mouth to speak, Aria felt a sudden pain in her head.
Everything went black.
