Chapter 102: Sending a Letter

Chapter 102: Sending a Letter

On his way, Li Yi bought some fruit. After all, Wei Kangan was his elder, and it felt inappropriate to visit an elder with empty hands.

Wei Kangan's home was also within the family compound of the meat processing factory, not far from Li Yi's home.

Li Yi walked into the corridor with ease. Before knocking on the door, he checked his clothes. Though a bit dusty, they were still passable.

After tidying himself up, Li Yi stretched out his hand and knocked on the thick anti-theft door of Wei Sanpao's house.

Not long after, the door was opened, and standing there was Wei Sanpao's father, Wei Kangan.

It was the weekend, and the factory was closed, so Wei Kangan was naturally at home.

When he saw Li Yi, Wei Kangan raised an eyebrow and then looked behind him, but didn't find his son.

Wei Kangan had a hunch, but still said in a low voice, "Xiaoyi, come in quickly! You're back from Haidong City!"

"Yes, I'm back," Li Yi replied.

"Where's my rascal? Why isn't he here? Why is he hiding from me?" Wei Kangan asked.

Li Yi sighed and said, "Uncle Wei, the third child said he wanted to try his luck in Haidong City, so he probably won't be back anytime soon."

"Before he left, he asked me to bring you a letter. I just got off the train and came straight here to deliver it."

Upon hearing this, Wei Kangan didn't say much. His expression remained calm as he nodded and said, "Thank you for bringing it, Xiaoyi. Please, sit down!"

Li Yi smiled and said, "Okay, Uncle Wei. I brought some fruit for you and Aunt Wei!"

Wei Kangan smiled and took the fruit, turning around to head to the kitchen. He came back with a cup of tea for Li Yi.

"Come on, Xiaoyi, why are you still standing? Sit down!"

"You're being too formal, bringing fruit just to visit Uncle Wei! During this time, that brat of mine has probably caused you a lot of trouble, right? I know it's tough on you. I didn't discipline that kid well. At least he's seeing the world now!"

Although Wei Kangan spoke lightly, Li Yi could clearly see the redness in his eyes, likely from shedding a few tears.

Li Yi kept quiet about it, silently acknowledging that Wei Kangan's deep love for his son, Wei Sanpao, was a perfect example of fatherly affection.

"Look at what you're saying, Uncle Wei. The third child has actually been a great help to me!"

Li Yi then continued, "It's thanks to you that you let me have the third child during this period. Otherwise, how could I have accomplished anything by myself?"

Hearing this, a gratified smile appeared on Wei Kangan's face, and he replied, "You're a good talker. Don't I know what kind of person my little rascal is?"

Li Yi simply smiled without continuing on the topic. Instead, he asked about the recent happenings at the factory. After some casual conversation, he stood up to leave.

Li Yi politely refused Wei Kangan's request to stay longer. Wei Kangan then went over to the table and picked up the letter written by Wei Sanpao.

"Stubborn kid, not even caring enough to send more than just a letter," Wei Kangan muttered.

Despite his words, he opened the handwritten letter carefully.

The letter was written in pencil, probably because Wei Sanpao's education level wasn't high. The content of the letter was also quite simple:

---

Dad, Mom, I plan to stay in Haidong City for a while. Brother Yi and I came here, and I've really broadened my horizons. There are so many rich people here! The hotel Brother Yi took me to was really luxurious. Brother Yi said it was high-end!

I also saw Brother Yi talking business with others. He's really good at it. I didn't dare interrupt while standing next to him... I feel like when I'm with Brother Yi, I'm just a burden. But who am I, Wei Sanpao? I won't be a burden, so I've decided to make my own way in Haidong City!

Dad, Mom, don't miss me too much. I'll take care of myself. Maybe when I return, I'll bring you a daughter-in-law!

---

Though short, Wei Kangan read the letter for a full hour.

From his son's childhood to the present, Wei Sanpao had often enjoyed the delicious bamboo shoots and fried meat that his father made.

Wei Sanpao was never a quiet child, from kindergarten through to high school. He followed Li Yi after high school, and even though Li Yi dropped out, Wei Sanpao thought that his own prospects weren't good, so he dropped out too and stopped studying.

When Li Fengnian found Wei Kangan to discuss getting a job for his son at the meat processing factory, Wei Sanpao got involved and followed Li Yi's footsteps to work there.

The two brothers had always been close. After the human traffickers were caught, Li Yi suddenly changed. He became more mature, stopped his previous vices, and started working hard for the livelihood of his family, which eventually helped them out of poverty.

Thanks to Li Yi's strategies, even the brothers who followed him started to walk the path of wealth. While it wasn't instant riches, they had certainly improved their family circumstances.

Wei Kangan also witnessed this transformation.

But why did Li Yi suddenly change?

Wei Kangan didn't know. In the end, he could only attribute it to an old saying: A prodigal son who returns is worth more than gold.

Although Wei Kangan was happy that his son had stopped causing trouble, he still worried. Since Li Yi's transformation, Wei Sanpao had become quieter.

This time, Wei Sanpao's decision to go out on his own was likely inspired by Li Yi.

For Wei Kangan, this was a good thing, as Wei Sanpao was quietly changing.

But there was still some discomfort. His son was leaving, and while Wei Kangan understood, he couldn't help but feel a little reluctant.

Still, young people must go out and see the world. Keeping Wei Sanpao in Jiangnan City would only hinder his future.

Although Wei Kangan's eyes were red, a small smile slowly appeared on his face.

He leaned back in the recliner, watching two swallows — one large and one small — on the windowsill outside. He sighed softly.

Brat, take care of yourself.
