Written in the Stars

The city lights shimmered below them, a thousand tiny stars scattered across the skyline. But up here, on the rooftop, the only thing that mattered was the way he looked at her. The way his fingers brushed against hers as if testing the boundaries of something unspoken.

"Did you ever think we'd end up here?" she asked, her voice soft, carried away by the evening breeze.

He exhaled a quiet chuckle. "Honestly? No. I thought I'd spend my life running from things I didn't understand—especially love."

She turned to him, curiosity dancing in her eyes. "And now?"

He studied her for a moment, then reached out, gently tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Now, I think love isn't something to run from. It's something to chase."

Her breath hitched.

"You make it sound so easy," she murmured.

He shook his head, a soft smirk playing on his lips. "Oh, trust me. Nothing about you is easy."

She gasped in mock offense. "Excuse me?"

He laughed, his fingers lacing through hers. "I mean it in the best way. You're... a storm, unpredictable and wild, and I think I'm just a fool standing in the rain, hoping to get struck by lightning."

Her heart clenched at the honesty in his voice.

"That's the most poetic way anyone has ever called me a pain in the ass," she whispered, a teasing smile breaking through.

He grinned. "You're welcome."

They stood there for a moment, the silence between them comfortable. The stars above seemed to twinkle in approval, as if the universe itself had conspired to bring them together.

"Come on," he said suddenly, tugging her hand. "I have one more surprise for you."

She raised an eyebrow. "Another one? You're really spoiling me tonight."

He shot her a smirk. "Only because you deserve it."

(A Love Letter in the Sky)

They drove for a while, the road stretching endlessly before them. She had no idea where they were going, but she trusted him.

Eventually, he pulled over near an open field, the kind of place where the sky stretched endlessly, unpolluted by city lights.

"Come on," he said, grabbing a blanket from the trunk.

She followed him to the center of the field, watching as he spread the blanket out on the soft grass. When he lay down and patted the spot beside him, she hesitated only for a second before settling beside him.

"What are we doing?" she asked, tilting her head.

He pointed up. "Look."

She followed his gaze, and her breath caught. The night sky was alive with stars, a breathtaking canvas of shimmering light.

"It's beautiful," she whispered.

He turned his head slightly, watching her instead of the sky. "Yeah, it is."

She glanced at him, catching the way his gaze softened when he looked at her.

"You brought me here just to see the stars?" she asked.

"Not just that." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small notebook. "I wanted to show you something."

Curious, she sat up as he handed it to her. She flipped it open, her eyes widening as she took in the words.

Her name. Written over and over again.

Messy scribbles. Some in capital letters. Others in rushed cursive.

Pages filled with thoughts, random sentences, pieces of unfinished confessions.

Her throat tightened as she read one in particular:

"I don't know when it happened, but she became my favorite thought."

She looked at him, emotions swirling in her chest. "You wrote all this?"

He rubbed the back of his neck, looking uncharacteristically shy. "Yeah, I—uh—I don't know when I started, but every time I tried to make sense of what I was feeling, it always led back to you."

She swallowed past the lump in her throat. "You... never told me."

"I didn't know how." He let out a small laugh. "Turns out, I suck at saying things out loud, so I wrote them down instead."

She flipped through the pages again, her heart swelling at the raw honesty within them.

"You once told me love is a language," she murmured. "I think this is yours."

His fingers brushed against hers, hesitant yet firm. "And I think you're the only one who understands it."

She met his gaze, and for the first time, she felt it. That undeniable truth between them.

She was his favorite thought.

And he was hers.

Without thinking, she leaned in, pressing her lips to his.

It wasn't rushed. It wasn't hurried.

It was slow, deep, and filled with every unspoken word they had never been brave enough to say.

When they pulled apart, he rested his forehead against hers, exhaling a quiet laugh. "You really are trouble, you know that?"

She grinned, her fingers tracing the side of his jaw. "And you're really bad at keeping secrets."

He smirked. "Not anymore."

"Okay, one more surprise," he announced, getting up and reaching into the car's dashboard.

She raised an eyebrow. "Another one? At this point, you're just showing off."

He pulled out his phone, connected it to the car's speakers, and within seconds, a soft melody filled the night air.

"You brought me to an empty field... to dance?" she teased.

He shrugged. "Romantic, isn't it?"

She laughed but let him pull her up. He wrapped his arms around her waist, swaying to the slow rhythm of the song.

For a moment, everything else faded.

The world was just them—the quiet hum of music, the warmth of his hands against her back, the gentle rise and fall of his chest against hers.

"You know," he murmured, his lips brushing against her temple, "I've never danced with anyone like this before."

"Like what?"

"Like... I actually want to."

She smiled against his shoulder. "Good. Because I'd be offended if I wasn't your first rooftop slow dance."

They continued moving, neither of them rushing to let go.

"You know what they say about dancing under the stars?" she asked.

He smirked. "That it's romantic as hell?"

She laughed. "That too. But some say if you dance with someone under a sky like this... it's fate."

He tightened his grip around her waist. "Then I guess we're written in the stars."

Her heart swelled at his words, at the way he held her like he never wanted to let go.

And in that moment, she knew—

She had found her home in him.
