Chapter 9: The Path of the Unseen
The jade token felt cold in Bai Yuan's palm, its surface smooth yet ancient, as if it carried the weight of countless years. He studied the intricate carvings—symbols of the Shadowmoon Pavilion, a sect he had only heard whispers about in his past life. Their reputation was one of secrecy and power, hidden in the undercurrents of the cultivation world.
Ling Xi crossed her arms, her sharp gaze fixed on the token. "Are we really considering going to Darkwind Valley?"
Bai Yuan smirked. "Curious, aren't you?"
She scoffed. "You don't find it strange that a sect like theirs is suddenly interested in you? You're strong, Bai Yuan, but you're not a major force yet."
He twirled the token between his fingers. "True, but they wouldn't have shown themselves unless they saw something valuable in me. Besides, knowledge is power."
Ling Xi shook her head. "I hope that curiosity doesn't get us killed."
Bai Yuan chuckled. "We'll just have to be careful."
He tucked the jade token away and focused on the next step. They had to leave the cave soon. The Crimson Serpent Hall might still have eyes in the region, and now with another faction interested in him, he needed to remain unpredictable.

The notification reassured him. The nanobots had accelerated his recovery once again, a cheat-like ability that made survival much easier. With that advantage, he could push himself further without concern.
"Let's move," Bai Yuan said. "We'll head toward the nearest town first. If we're going to enter Darkwind Valley, we need supplies."
Ling Xi nodded, and the two exited the cave, slipping into the dense forest once more.
After half a day's journey, they arrived at a bustling town nestled between rolling hills and towering bamboo forests. The scent of grilled meat and freshly baked bread wafted through the streets, mixing with the chatter of merchants and wandering cultivators.
Bai Yuan adjusted his robes, ensuring his appearance remained inconspicuous. "Let's split up," he said. "I'll gather information, and you handle supplies."
Ling Xi gave him a look. "And if you get into trouble?"
He flashed a grin. "You'll probably hear about it before I do."
She rolled her eyes but didn't argue, vanishing into the crowd. Bai Yuan took a deep breath, his Tactical Awareness scanning the area. The town seemed peaceful, but he knew better than to trust appearances.
He made his way toward a teahouse, a known hub for information. As he entered, the scent of jasmine tea filled his senses. Several cultivators were scattered around, some engaged in quiet conversations while others simply enjoyed their drinks.
Taking a seat near the back, he listened closely to the murmurs around him.
"…the Crimson Serpent Hall has been unusually active lately."
"…someone saw a mysterious figure heading toward Darkwind Valley. They say the Shadowmoon Pavilion might be making a move."
"…and did you hear? The Bai Clan has sent out search parties. They're looking for someone."
Bai Yuan's fingers tightened slightly around his cup. His former clan was still searching for him? That could mean trouble.
Before he could dwell on it, a figure approached his table—a middle-aged man with a calculating gaze. "You have an interesting aura, young man," he said with a knowing smile. "Looking for something… or running from something?"
Bai Yuan remained calm. "I'd say I'm just passing through."
The man chuckled. "Then you should be careful. The winds of fate are shifting, and those caught in the storm rarely leave unscathed."
Bai Yuan smirked. "Storms make for the best opportunities."
The man laughed, clearly amused. "Perhaps. But beware—when multiple forces move at once, it's never just a coincidence."
Bai Yuan nodded slightly, understanding the unspoken warning. Trouble was brewing, and he was right in the middle of it.
And he wouldn't have it any other way.
