It's bright in the morning, and near a farm a boy can be seen. The boy is sitting down in front of the farmhouse, he seems to be waiting for something. The young boy is looking forward to their entrance, Lucas is waiting.
"Father and mother are gone for now, I don't know when they disappeared. I don't remember when they did exactly, but they aren't home." Lucas said to himself.
I love them both so much yet they left me behind. "They are gone now, but they will return soon, they will get the money." Lucas says as he smiles.
The sky is very beautiful and bright, he has always loved spring. Spring was the time where a lot of their cows, and sheep had babies and he could pet them. Recently there has been less babies, but he knew it was because of money issues.
Lucas kicks his feet up in the air, and watches the clouds move. It's windy today which is great as it means it won't be hot, and he won't sweat.
After a few more minutes of watching the clouds move, his stomach growls. Lucas hasn't eaten in a few days since his mother made him dinner. His mother hasn't left anything behind for him to eat so he will have to endure it.
Lucas believes that his parents will be back within a week so he will wait. They probably just forgot to make him food, he is going to be fine. He then looks down, and spots a black ant walking by, he smiles and he leans forward.
"My parents are going to be back soon enough, they will get this farm back. They are taking their time, and when they return they will hug me tightly." Lucas says as he puts his hand near the ant.
The ant runs away from Lucas which saddens him for a bit, but it's alright. It's an ant, he can find more, and make friends with them. He lifts his hand, and its covered in dirt, he then pats his hand trying to get rid of the dirt.
"How should I welcome them back?" Lucas says as he begins to think of a way to greet them again. Not so long after he says that he hears the front door of their house creek open.
Lucas turns and sees a big grey wolf opening the door with its nose. Lucas didn't lock the door as he had no reason to because they lived far away from anyone.
The wolf spots Lucas, and they both stare at each other. Lucas remembers that they are dangerous creatures. The wolf ignores Lucas, and enters the house slowly, "That's strange why would it do that?" Lucas thinks to himself.
His parents have told him that it's rare to see wolfs around these parts. His parents told him that if he ever saw a wolf, he should run away but he can't. He has nowhere else to run away to, and this house is his only shelter.
Lucas then remembers something very important, his father's favorite shirt is in there. Lucas stands up after making that realization, the shirt is in the counter of the living room.
"Hey uhh…Leave my parents house now, you're trespassing. I don't want to repeat myself you're breaking the law!" Lucas says with a louder voice.
There is no response, "I said that you're breaking and entering. I'll report you if you don't leave at this instant!" He yells again.
Lucas then begins to walk back to the house, he is going to force it outside. He won't let anyone enter his parents house without permission.
As he approaches his house he knows what danger resides, he just can't let it possibly damage his father's shirt. Lucas then stops and he listens, he can't hear anything so it must have entered a different room.
Wait no, what is he doing? He is trying to face a very dangerous animal. He is small, and he can't possible do anything. Lucas continues contemplating if it's worth it to save his father's shirt. He doesn't want his father to be mad at him, but at the same time it's his life he is putting at risk.
As soon as he decides to enter the house the door opens, and Lucas backs away immediately. The wolf exists the house, and stares directly at Lucas, "Hey, leave now as you already broke inside, leave as it seems you have nothing else to do."
"Hey, get away from that thing!" Lucas hears a voice, and so does the wolf. A gunshot can be heard, and the wolf begins to run away. Lucas turns and sees a young man running towards him with a rifle.
The man catches up to Lucas, "Hey kid, are you alright? Where are your parents?" The man asks him, but Lucas is focused on one thing, the man seems very tired.
"They aren't home at the moment, they left because someone bought our farm. They are out to get the money to buy back our home, that's what they told me. They said I couldn't come with them as they needed to save as much money as possible, I know they will return." Lucas says with a bright smile.
The man is utterly disgusted with what he just heard form this child. Why would they do that to their own son?
"Hey mister, why do you look so tired? Did you not sleep well?" Lucas asked as his face was more interesting that anything else that has happend in the past few minutes.
The man then clears his throat, "Oh yeah I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Diego Guida and I'm a hunter. This wolf that just ran way was my target as it was disturbing me."
"Hey kid, do you really believe that they are going to return to you? It's alright if you are just lying to yourself as people need to find ways to handle these hard situations." Diego says to Lucas, but honestly he doesn't want to tell Lucas the truth that he has been abandoned.
"Well they said that they would return back soon, if they weren't returning they would of taken me with them. Don't worry about me I'm just a bit hungry, my parents are smart so they know when to return." Lucas says to Diego wholeheartedly believing.
Diego really doesn't want to tell Lucas the truth as his face seems so innocent. He seems confused and he hopes that he is just coping, and already knows what's happening.
Diego gets down to Lucas's level, and looks him in the eyes, "Listen kid, your parents aren't going to return soon." Lucas looks at him with confusion, "Your parents abandoned you because they had no money, they don't want you at all. Listen, I've heard of these types of situations before, and it makes me feel sick everytime I hear them."
"I haven't eaten in a few days, and I'm hungry, do you have food that I can have?" Lucas asked completely ignoring what Diego told him.
"What no you just-forget it, you can't just trust a stranger like that. You should be careful around them, and that includes me. I'm not to be trusted as well." Diego says.
"Well since you're a stranger, I shouldn't be following your advice." Lucas says with a smug face.
"Listen kid, everyone is taught this lesson, didn't your parents teach you this before? Listen, normally you should accept this, but you're in a bad situation right now. I'll take you to a place where you can find a new family." Diego says to Lucas as he gets back up.
"What do you mean new family? My parents said they will return with money. They are working hard, and told me to wait right here so they can't be lying." Lucas says to Diego as he puffs his cheeks.
Lucas then notices how sad Diego seems, and realizes that maybe his parents won't be returning soon. This realization hits him hard, and Lucas begins to tear up.
"Hey kid don't cry right now…Wait! crying usually makes people feel better afterwards. You shouldn't lock away your emotions like that as in the future it will burst out in an ugly way." Diego tries to reassure Lucas, but he really doesn't know how to. He doesn't know this kid at all so it's a guess for him.
Lucas begins to cry, "W-Why would they do that to me? Why would my parents lie to me, and abandon me here? I'm hungry and I was lied to by them, my parents don't love me." Lucas says as his face begins to turn slightly red.
Lucas sits down and continues to cry. Diego looks away, and he thinks about how cruel this world really is.
"Listen kid, I'll take you in, but just remember this, don't trust strangers so easily. Even if they are helping you out stay cautious of them, there are horrible consequences in trusting strangers. Some of the consequences might be getting kidnapped or killed, but you need help right now so this is different." Diego says and honestly he doesn't know if he said it correctly for Lucas to understand.
Lucas begins to calm down and he wipes his tears, "A-Alright then, I'll go with you." Lucas then stands up, and walks behind Diego.
"What did I just tell you, you shouldn't be so trusting in adults." Diego yells at Lucas which make him cry again. "Wait I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell at you, I'm just trying to look out for you." He says quickly.
Lucas then calms down a bit as Diego tries to apologize, "Alright, but you're very confusing, I just don't get you." Lucas says, and Diego tries to explain again.
Lucas then grabs the hand of Diego, but Diego is about to pull away until he sees Lucas face. Lucas seems so innocent and scared. He can't do this to a child so he just lets Lucas grab his hand.
"So are you going to kidnap me? After all we are alone, and no one is here to witness." Lucas says and Diego pulls his hand away, Lucas watches as Diego tries to deny it, "Don't worry, I know you won't do that, for some reason I believe that you're a good person."
"Don't say that to me, it's making my heart ache as you seem like a great kid. I just don't know why some people would abandon you like that…hey don't kick my feet." Diego says as he turns to Lucas.
"Don't insult my parents alright, they are…they will return." Lucas seems to be stubborn about his situation even after finding out the truth. It seems that he is trying to cope with it in a terrible way.
"Alright then I'm sorry…I'm sorry that you have bad parents, parents that lied to you, and manipulated you." Diego is then kicked again by Lucas in the leg.
"Listen, unlike your parents I won't abandon you until you get a real family." Diego says and as they leave the farm he couldn't help, but think about where he will leave him.
Diego isn't really great with children as he grew up as an only child. He doesn't know if he really is a great role model for kids. Lucas then holds onto his hands tighter. Lucas's hands are so small and soft.
If there were people around it would seem like he is walking with his own son. Diego honestly doesn't care if people think of that as he is going to be responsible and help him out.
Diego looks around, "Hey kid, the nearest place is only a few hours away. You will have to ride a horse with me, and may I ask if you have ever ridden a horse before?" Diego asks and Lucas nods yes, "Listen, I want you to hold onto me, and don't you dare fall sleep."
Diego then hears Lucas's stomach grumble, "I'll get you something to eat when we arrive, you understand?" Lucas nods, Diego helps Lucas get onto his horse as he gets on it as well.
Lucas begins to caress the horses hair, "It's pretty and soft, I really want to keep this horse." Lucas says as he hugs the horse.
"Hold on tight kid, this horse is a female, and she sure doesn't love kids which I don't understand. Also don't get too attached as you will stay at a shelter and I'm leaving." Diego says, and Lucas looks a bit sad after hearing that.
