The dawn brought a sense of unease. Ever since Leonhardt had unlocked the new function of his ability, he felt that something inside him was changing. Not only could he see statistics, but now he had access to fragments of information he did not fully understand.
But he had no time to dwell on it. His training with Evelyn and Seraphina continued, and now, with his new ability, he was determined to take his skills to the next level.
A New Training with Evelyn
"Today, we're changing the rules," Evelyn said, spinning her wooden sword with ease. "You won't be able to use magic."
Leonhardt raised an eyebrow."Why?"
"Because I want to see how you handle yourself using only your body. Relying too much on magic is a mistake."
Leonhardt nodded. He knew Evelyn was right. He depended too much on his mana to enhance his attacks and speed. If he ever found himself in a situation where he couldn't use magic, he'd be in trouble.
The training began with Evelyn attacking immediately. Leonhardt instinctively moved to dodge, but without magic, his speed was slower. He barely managed to block her strike, but Evelyn's strength pushed him backward.
"She's basically stronger than me. If I keep trading blows, I'll lose."
He decided to change his strategy. Instead of blocking directly, he began to anticipate Evelyn's movements using Vision of Statistics. Now that he could see more specific details, he could analyze her stance and predict where her next attack would land.
"So now you're using it!" Evelyn exclaimed with a grin.
Leonhardt didn't respond and dodged her next attack by mere millimeters. Then, he countered with a kick to Evelyn's supporting leg, momentarily unbalancing her.
"It worked!"
But before he could celebrate, Evelyn spun around and landed an elbow strike to his chest, sending him to the ground.
"Good idea, but not enough."
Leonhardt took a deep breath and stood up."Let's go again."
Evelyn smiled."That's what I wanted to hear."
An Unexpected Encounter
After training, Leonhardt decided to visit the library at home to research more about his ability. But as he entered, he found someone unexpected.
"Seraphina?"
The half-elf was sitting with several open books in front of her. Upon hearing his voice, she looked up, slightly annoyed.
"Leonhardt. I was just reading about special abilities."
He approached, curious."Did you find anything interesting?"
Seraphina pointed to a paragraph in one of the books."This mentions something called 'Eyes of Truth.' It says some individuals are born with the ability to perceive beyond what others can see."
Leonhardt felt a chill run down his spine."Does it say anything about an 'Eye of Destiny'?"
Seraphina frowned."Not by that exact name, but there are mentions of similar abilities that can perceive the flow of fate."
Leonhardt clenched his fists. If his ability was related to that, then it meant he had a bigger role in this world than he had thought.
"Thank you, Seraphina. This helps a lot."
She smiled."If you find anything else, let me know. I'd like to help you uncover the truth."
Saya and Her True Nature
That night, while Leonhardt was in his room, Saya entered without warning.
"Leonhardt, we need to talk."
He looked up."What's wrong?"
Saya took a deep breath, then let her horns and tail appear once again.
"I think it's time you knew more about me."
Leonhardt watched her carefully."I always wondered why you can hide your demonic features."
Saya sat on his bed."Not all demons can do this. But my mother had the blood of a special race that allowed her to conceal her true nature. I inherited it from her."
Leonhardt frowned."So… are there more like you?"
Saya shook her head."Not that I know of. My mother died when I was young, and I never met anyone else with these abilities."
Leonhardt felt a weight in his chest. He understood that Saya had lived a difficult life.
"Saya… you're part of my family now. Your origin doesn't matter."
She looked at him in surprise before smiling."Thank you, Leonhardt."
A New Mission
Days passed, and Leonhardt continued improving. But one day, Garet called him to his office.
"Son, I have a task for you."
Leonhardt looked at him firmly."What is it about?"
Garet took out a parchment and handed it to him."A group of merchants has requested our help to escort them to the neighboring city. They want to ensure they won't be attacked by bandits or monsters."
Leonhardt felt excitement rise within him."Does that mean I'll finally be able to leave the city?"
Garet nodded."It's a good opportunity for you to put what you've learned into practice. But be careful."
Leonhardt's expression turned determined."I won't disappoint you."
That night, he prepared his belongings. This would be his first real mission outside the safety of his home.
Something inside him told him that this journey would change his life forever.
