"Elyna, you will be going to the academy starting tomorrow."
Elyna stopped eating in confusion, not understanding what Val meant by the word 'academy'.
Not waiting for Elyna to even process her words, Val calmly continued his words.
"I have prepared everything you need. You will go to the academy with Eir, Hera and Jake. Then, when you return from there, I have also prepared a special tutor to help you learn to read and write."
"I... don't want to go to the academy," muttered Elyna. Her head lowered deeply, afraid that Val would suddenly get angry with her.
Elyna was afraid to reject her alpha's words. But really, Elyna doesn't even know what school is.
Val raised his eyebrows in surprise. He didn't expect little Luna to dare to deny what he said.
"Why? You just need to attend the class. I won't ask you to study hard. In this day and age... going to study is the safest way to blend in with humans," Val said. His tone was casual. But to Elyna, who had just met him, it sounded like a threat that stabbed her in the heart.
"W-what's an academy? Um... there are many humans out there and... I don't like humans."
Val fell silent. In modern times, even non-humans had to blend in if they wanted to live in peace. Val created a program to attend human schools because of that. Thanks to that program, the foundation of his pack was strong to the point that they even had members in important parts of their country.
As a new member of the pack, even if Elyna was still blind to everything, she also had to go through the same process to trick the hunters, who were also blending in with humans. Val had prepared everything as soon as he rescued Elyna.
"Hera, Eir, and Jake will accompany you wherever you go. Blending in with them is the fastest way to adapt to this modern world. Moreover, as my partner, you cannot avoid meeting humans in the future."
Elyna fiddled with her fingers restlessly. For her, all humans were evil. Even if some of them were kind-hearted, they would change as soon as the opportunity came.
"Can't I... not meet them? I think I'll be fine... if I don't have to meet them," Elyna persuaded stubbornly. Val raised his eyebrows. He didn't expect Elyna's hatred for humans to be even worse than he had expected.
"I... I don't need to adapt. I'll hide well. The human world is scary. They'll catch me as soon as they see me," Elyna continued.
A loud clicking sound was heard after that. Eir put away her fork in annoyance, clearly looking at Elyna with annoyance.
"Why do you have so many excuses? What era do you live in? All humans will try to catch you, you say? Are you so stupid that you can't tell the difference between ordinary humans and hunters?" Eir said loudly.
"Watch your tone in front of Luna, Eir!" Duke tried to remind her. The atmosphere in the dining room became cold, and Elyna felt like it was all her fault.
Her tears fell silently. Elyna was indeed known to be a crybaby since she was little. Especially when it involved the people around her.
"You're annoying! Look! You made the puppy cry!" Zen grumbled in disapproval. His hand reached out to stroke Elyna's head, making Val unconsciously frown.
"She's still afraid to meet humans. Do you know what she's been through? Don't pressure her, or I'll be mad at you, Eir!" Zen threatened seriously.
Unfortunately, Eir returned the threat with a mocking smile.
"Are you defending her? Don't tell me you like her. She's our brother's mate! It's our job to make her worthy of being in this pack! Besides, what's with her whiny attitude?! Let me guess. She's just trying to look pathetic to get everyone's attention!" Eir defended, not wanting to lose.
CLACK!
"Enough."
The cold baritone stopped their argument. Val stopped eating, fully focused on Elyna, who was trying her best to wipe away her tears.
Val took a deep breath. "Are you afraid to meet humans?" he asked to make sure.
Elyna just kept her head down. Occasionally shaking her head or sometimes nodding.
Elyna wanted to just nod. But because Val's gaze was too suffocating, she ended up unsure of her answer.
"Do you hope to never meet them again forever?" Val asked again.
This time, Elyna nodded immediately. Her reply made Eir want to rant again before Hera closed her mouth sadistically.
"But Elyna, as Eir said, not all humans are part of the hunters who are chasing our people. There are also many good humans out there. Getting to know them allows you to get the right help when the pack members can't do it," Val explained. It was a miracle that he could be patient in many things since meeting her mate.
Elyna was stunned. The image of humans hunting her pack while carrying weapons made tears slowly pool in her eyes.
TAP!
"We know you're scared, Dear. But... not all humans are as evil as the ones you've met. Besides, Jack, Eir, and Hera can look after you, right? I can guarantee that your life at the academy will be a memory you like."
Elyna felt a tap on her shoulder, then turned to see Siren smiling at her. Siren's smile was able to stop Elyna's silent crying. Siren's soft hands wiped Elyna's tears. Siren smiled again when she saw Elyna closing her eyes because of her actions.
After that, a hand reached out to Elyna. Val rubbed the tissue he got from the servant on Elyna's tear-stained face. Only when Elyna's face was clean again did he finally withdraw his hand.
"Still afraid of meeting humans?" Val asked.
Elyna slowly shook her head. She believed Siren's words.
"That's our Luna," Zen comforted casually while gently stroking Elyna's hair. That was fun before Val's face turned cold, not accepting her mate being treated like that.
Alphas, consciously or not, are always instinctively possessive of their partners.
"Finish your breakfast. All activities will start at eight," Val reprimanded while eating her food again. Everyone nodded. After that, they ate in silence.
Val silently watched Elyna who was eating her food. A mess. Val thought he should also teach Elyna about table manners.
"Zen, add a manners lesson to her class," Val ordered, which replied with a nod from his brother. Elyna stopped eating her breakfast, wondering if she had made another mistake that she didn't realize.
"You're not wrong. Come on, just continue your meal," Val decided before they went back to enjoying their food in silence.
Silence, because in her heart, Elyna was starting to be curious about the place called the university that everyone meant.
Elyna could only pray it wasn't a pile of cells where her race would be locked up. Nor is it a place where she will be tortured if she cries or does something wrong.
Even so, Siren's face was sincere when she said everything would be fine. Elyna believed her. She had to trust her new family no matter what.
No exception, believe someone who was eating her food in annoyance.
"Just watch it, you stinky dog. How dare you come in and act like you're precious in front of my brother."
Someone is secretly swearing out of hatred.
