Taming My First Monster
I scanned the room filled with bouncing blue slimes, their gelatinous bodies jiggling with every hop. There had to be at least thirty of them, maybe more.
"This place looks like a slime breeding ground..." I muttered under my breath.
Then, a thought struck me.
"Wait—can I tame a slime?"
If I was a Tamer, then theoretically, I should be able to.
I carefully observed the slimes and decided to approach one that was alone, away from the others. I didn't want to get mobbed by a swarm of slimes—though now that I said that in my head, it sounded pretty pathetic. Imagine getting taken down by a bunch of squishy blue blobs.
Slowly, I crept toward the lone slime, trying not to startle it.
However, the moment it noticed me—
Boing!
It didn't run away. Instead, it bounced toward me at full speed.
"...Huh?" That was unexpected. I thought it would be timid, but it was actually coming straight at me like a fearless warrior.
Still, I stood my ground, watching as it rapidly closed the distance. This was perfect—I could test my Taming skill. After all, it's not like a slime could seriously hurt me, right?

A grin spread across my face. "Finally! A quest! And I even get rewards for it!"
This just made me even more determined to tame this little slime.
The slime reached me and launched itself into the air, aiming straight for my chest. I let it land an attack, purely out of curiosity.
THUD!
The impact knocked me off balance, and I stumbled backward, landing on the ground.
"Oof... okay, I seriously underestimated you," I admitted, quickly checking my HP bar.
HP: 9/10
"Not bad. You actually managed to take one point off my HP," I said with amusement, shaking my head. "Guess I deserved that."
The slime bounced excitedly, as if proud of itself.
"But now," I continued, extending my hand toward its squishy body, "it's my turn."
I placed my palm on what I thought was its head and activated my skill.
"Taming!"
A bright crimson-red magic circle formed on the slime's body, a five-pointed star glowing at its center. A similar symbol appeared on my palm.
DING!

I didn't hesitate.
"YES!"
DING!
Congratulations! You have acquired your first pet: [Slime].
I let out a small sigh of relief and sat down away from the other slimes. I didn't want to risk getting attacked while I checked my new companion's stats.
However, before I could open my menu, the newly tamed slime hopped onto my lap, bouncing up and down excitedly.
I blinked.
"You're... really comfortable with me already, huh?"
Now that I got a better look at it, the slime was actually beautiful—its translucent blue body shimmered like a precious diamond under the dim cave light. The crimson-red magic circle from earlier had faded from both my palm and the slime's head, leaving no trace of the taming process.
Curious, I reached out and gently pressed my hand against its soft surface.
"...Whoa."
It felt like touching a cloud, or maybe one of those ridiculously soft plush toys I used to have as a kid. It was oddly relaxing.
The slime stilled beneath my touch.
"...You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
In response, it wiggled closer into my lap, completely still as I absentmindedly continued petting it.
Not gonna lie, this is kinda nice.
With my free hand, I finally opened the Pet Stats tab.

There was also a new Pet Skills tab. I clicked it.
Pet SkillsStorage Lv.1 – Allows the user to store up to 5 items inside their body.Charge Lv.1 – Propels the user forward at increased speed, dealing 5% more damage upon impact.
I blinked.
"So that's why I fell down when she hit me… she used Charge on me."
Her low strength and my high vitality probably negated the damage boost, but the force was still enough to knock me off my feet. That was good to know.
I absentmindedly ran my fingers along the slime's surface, thinking about what to do next.
Then, something caught my eye.
Gender: Female.
Wait… how can a slime have a gender?!
I stared at the screen in confusion. There was no way to tell just by looking at her. Do slimes even reproduce like normal creatures?
I decided not to think too hard about it.
Instead, I focused on something more important—naming us both.
I checked my own status window. My name was still listed as "????" just like my slime's.
"I should name myself first," I thought aloud.
A few moments passed as I debated whether to use my real name. After some consideration, I decided to stick with it.
I mentally confirmed the name.
DING!
Name successfully updated to: [Satoru].
Family name updated to: [Mikami].
I smirked. "Huh… so I just have to think it, and it works?"
That opened up a whole new range of possibilities. Could I use spells the same way? I'd have to test that later.
For now—
I glanced down at the slime still nestled comfortably in my lap.
"Alright, little one. It's time for your name."
