The Unexpected

"This is going to be good," I say, grinning as I look at the other slimes scattered across the field.

"Time to farm."

I glance away from my stats and notice that I'm almost done with my quest. Just 100 more EXP, and Yuko will level up, completing the quest.

I look at Yuko, who is jumping up and down, clearly trying to grab my attention so I can pet her head again.

I sigh and give in. "Okay, okay, you deserve it. You did fight, and I guess you can use the time to recover some stamina."

I notice her stamina is at 6/10. I'm guessing every time she uses her skills, she burns 1 point of stamina. But since she leveled up, she gained an extra point of stamina, meaning she can use her skills even more now.

40 minutes later

It took 40 minutes for Yuko to recover 4 points of stamina, which means she gains 1 point every 10 minutes.

During that time, we went back to the river where I hunted fish. I was starving, feeling like I could eat grass at this point. Yuko didn't eat, of course—slimes don't get hungry, apparently.

By the time we returned to what I'm calling the Slime Farm, Yuko's skill bar was full again, so it was time for more fighting.

We scouted the area and found a group of 4 slimes alone. "Yuko, I want you to take on the 2 on the left by that tree. I'll handle the other two," I start, but before I can finish my plan, Yuko dashes forward and uses her [Charge] skill on the nearest slime, knocking it to the ground and dazing it. She quickly switches her attention to the second slime.

Before that slime even has time to react, she rushes toward it and uses [Charge] again, knocking it into the tree, causing it to shake.

She switches targets again, returning to the first slime she knocked down, and charges at it once more. She kills it and immediately turns to the second slime, finishing it off with another [Charge].

I hear the system alerting me that Yuko has killed both slimes.

Ding Ding Ding

Pet has killed a slime. Gained 100 EXP.You have gained 50 EXP from your pet.Due to pet using [Charge] abundantly, Yuko has leveled up to level 2.

"Good job, Yuko," I say, turning my attention to the two slimes charging at me. I dodge to the right to avoid their attacks. I grab the stick at my side, gather what power I can, and swing it at both slimes with all my strength, taking them both down in one strike.

However, my stick shatters in the process. "It lasted longer than I thought it would," I mutter, clenching my jaw.

Ding

You have gained 100 EXP from defeating 2 slimes.Ding! You have completed your quest.

I ignore the other notifications for now. Time to go back to farming with Yuko.

1 hour later

Yuko and I have spent the past hour grinding slimes. In total, we've killed 17 slimes together. I killed 7, and Yuko took down 10. I let her kill more because I still gain EXP when she does, but she doesn't when I fight. It's a win-win!

I look over at Yuko, who is exhausted after taking down over half of the slimes we've fought. Suddenly, without warning, she jumps onto my face, causing me to fall back onto the ground.

"Yuko, what was that for?" I say, confused as to why she knocked me down.

Yuko doesn't move, and I'm too tired to push her off, so I tell her, "Hey, I'm tired. If you want to relax, just jump once," but instead, she keeps jumping on my stomach.

"Hey, stop! That tickles!" I laugh, feeling like a soft, bouncy pillow landed on me. That's Yuko for you—blue and as bouncy as a ball.

I close my eyes and almost drift off to sleep when Yuko stops jumping and starts relaxing too.

Moments later...

"Thump… thump…"

I wake up, instantly alert from the noise of Yuko jumping on me. I open my eyes slowly and mumble, "W.ha.t.s...wro..ng..yuko?" my words slurring as I just woke up.

When my eyes fully open, I see a green slime coming at us with incredible speed.

I quickly shake off the drowsiness and stand up. "HOW CAN A SLIME MOVE THAT FAST?" I exclaim, staring at the green slime.

Suddenly, the ground beneath the slime shifts, and small stone pillars form every time it leaps.

"Can this slime control the ground around it?" I wonder, intrigued.

I glance at Yuko, who is already perched on high ground, ready to attack.

This stronger enemy was bound to appear sooner or later.

"Let's go, Yuko! We'll take this slime down together!" I say as I move forward, with Yuko right behind me.
