Serafelle: chapter 2

Professor Moontar explained the languages of old in such ungodly hours of the morning the sun wasn't even out. "Hirekat is an old language of dragon containing five vowels and three consonants."

Her chalk scribbled across the board depriving them of sleep "A, E, I, O, U, are the vowels. H, R, K are the consonants."

"With these few alphabets you'll be able to summon mighty beasts, dragons, spells, even demons if one is not careful." She explained further throwing a board cleaner at a dosing Valdis.

"I can see that none of you are awake yet some exercise is necessary."

Valdis jerked awake "Today we will be focusing on three things, targeting a creature, standing in flames and summoning creatures using Hirekat."

Her ruler collided with the desk so loudly they all stood up simultaneously "Wake up and start practicing."

A bird was placed in the middle of the classroom on the wooden floor in the middle of a circle drawn with chalk that it could not fly out of.

"Serafelle give it a go." she encouraged.

A bundle of wrecking nerves sera lifted her switchblade "Breathe your highness, feel the knots in your muscles loosen, feel the strength of your wrists and sharpness of your eyes and...aim."

The blade stopped three lines away from the tied bird and the professor sucked teeth "Next your highness Valdis."

Valdis was a bit different from serafelle they had the symbolic tea green Alcon eyes with a drop of black for pupils, yet were Serafelle's hair was brown and lengthy hers was darker than night stopping at her shoulders.

While Serafelle was always dressed in darker colors, Valdis shone brightly in white. She wore no other color but white.

Her eyes trained on the bird; her blade fell a bit further than Serafelle's.

Same with Emery and Eris.

By the time they reached Neera's turn professor Moontar was raving "Can one of you please take your studies seriously!"

The candle light flickered across her blade, flashing as it dashed towards the shredding the ropes that held it hostage.

Impressed, the professor beamed, "Good enough at least it touched the bird."

She turned to look at a fast asleep deyanira and nearly lost it "Your highness deyanira! deyanira! get up this instant!"

Startled by the professor's outburst, the nine year old stirred awake suddenly flinging her blade, which soared through the air like lightning, it slashed into the bird that had attempted to fly, killing it on the spot. "Yes professor? sorry this class is just too early." she whined while yawning auburn curls a mess from sleeping.

Completely unaware of the awestruck look on their faces "That was... incredible you did that without aiming?"

Deyanira rubbed her eyes "Did what?" her eyes fell on the dead bird "Oh I thought it was a flying bug, what? was I not supposed to kill it? sorry."

"Moving on." The professor moved the bird out of the circle and replaced it with a bunny.

Valdis pouted green orbs shining with adoration "Aww, it's so cute, I don't want to kill it."

Serafelle stared at the little thing "Me too, I can't harm the poor guy."

Moontar muttered a harsh word under her breath "No one is killing it, you are summoning it towards you. It's basic beast summoning. If you can't do this, trust me none of you will summon a dragon."

"Heka, Hirka, Hora!" she chanted as the bunny hopped all the way to her into her arms.

The girls arched their brows "I'm not sure you need magic to that." Eris jested and they dissolved in laughter.

The professor held her nose bridge for emotional support. "Really then give it a go."

Eris stretched her hands towards the bunny and the professor returned to the circle "Hika, Herka, Hoka!" she chanted.

The bunny didn't move a muscle. "Okay so it's harder than I thought." the others shook with laughter.

Soon none of them were laughing, not even one of them could move the bunny.

Professor Moontar Danishey had the sudden urge to quit trying "Okay since that was a total embarrassing disappointment, we will move to endurance."

She took out the bunny and arranged sticks in the middle of the circle lighting them on fire "Now, Serafelle step into the fire."

They all looked at the professor coyly "Are you serious?" Serafelle asked, making the girls convulse in quiet hidden laughter.

"What do you mean, I am sure, you are born of dragon blood. This should be a piece of cake. All you have to do is stand in the fire till the hourglass empties" the professor yelled trying not to pull her bleached blonde hair.

Against her wish Serafelle walked into the circle and stepped on the fire.

At first it was cool to the feet but ten minutes later her legs smelt like roasted beef.

She was dying in the flames, her legs peeling away from the heat. Huge swells began to form of the exposed inner flesh.

The pain was too much she had to step out.

Valdis lasted ten minutes as well, Eris five, Emery two the moment she placed her feet in the fire she ran out "Maybe it's because she's a fish." Eris cracked up causing all of them to roar with laughter.

Moontar shot her a look "I hope you're proud with your five minutes your highness Eris with such a score you'll never summon a dragon."

Eris shrugged, "No one cares about dragons, they're extinct."

Serafelle giggled holding her belly "I agree."

Deyanira stepped into the flames 1 minute, 2, 5minutes, ten minutes, 20minutes.

The glorious smirk on Moontar was all the mockery they needed "20 minutes your highness deya you are extraordinary."

"I don't think mine was as hot as the others." Deyanira protested completely in awe of why the flames didn't burn.

One couldn't tell if professor Moontar was impressed or annoyed with the thin line of her lips "Remember the important laws of Alcon recite it."

They spoke in sync all drawling at the regular ten laws of Alcon.

"(1) An Alcon is the secret hero of the people and must be protected no matter the cost.

(2) never flaunt your power,

(3) do not harm harmless or naive humans,

(4)do not kill unless necessary,

(5)do not manipulate or cheat others unless necessary.

(6) An Alcon is not a brute; they do not wreck havoc on the people.

(7) An Alcon must always be in control,

(9) An Alcon is the Emperor's sword; the emperor's will is our will.

(8)The identity of an Alcon is anonymous until it is made known by the Emperor.

(9) The Emperor's word is the law.

(10)At the cost of an Alcons life they must protect the Emperor first and his family.

Moontar was satisfied a bit. "That is the end of today's class. I want you all to retire to your chambers and think about why you failed so miserably."
