VALDIS: CHAPTER 54

Valdis was surrounded by other women who Rakaar had sent to aid her, their faces shadowed with a mix of curiosity and caution.

The woman contractions had gotten stronger and they needed to brace themselves.

The small hut was stifling, the scent of hay mingling with the faint metallic tang of blood and sweat.

The air felt thick, almost suffocating, and every sound was amplified, the crackling of the lantern, the ragged breaths of the woman in labor, and the soft shuffle of feet as the other women hesitated, unsure of what to do.

The woman in labor cried out, her voice piercing the oppressive silence as she clutched her swollen belly.

Valdis quickly helped her onto the crude pile of hay that served as a makeshift bed. The woman's body trembled with the effort, and her face twisted in pain.
