The Football Tryouts

The sun hung low over Igualada's football field as Daniel stepped onto the pitch, his heart pounding. This was his chance to prove himself. He had always loved football, but today was different—he wasn't just playing for fun. He was playing to belong.

Luis and Sofia were already warming up with the rest of the team, passing the ball between them effortlessly. Coach Morales Martinez Navarro, a tall man with graying hair and sharp eyes, paced near the center of the field, clipboard in hand.

"¡Muy bien, escuchen!", gritó el entrenador. "Hoy tenemos un nuevo jugador que se une a nosotros. Daniel Carter, ¡muéstranos lo que tienes!"("Alright, listen up!" the coach shouted. "We have a new player joining us today. Daniel Carter, show us what you've got!")

Daniel exhaled and stepped forward. No pressure.

"Let's start with some passing drills," Navarro ordered. "Sofia, pair up with Daniel."

Sofia smirked. "Try to keep up, American boy."

The drill began. Daniel received a pass and sent it back, his movements sharp but careful. But then—it happened.

Time flickered.

For a split second, everything slowed. He saw Sofia's next move before she made it. His brain processed it too quickly, and instead of making a simple return pass, he hesitated. The ball rolled past him.

A few chuckles rose from the team.

"Not bad," Sofia teased, "if you were playing in slow motion."

Daniel clenched his jaw. Not now. Not here.

Coach Navarro frowned. "Focus, Carter. Again!"

They moved on to dribbling drills, then shooting practice. Each time, Daniel found himself struggling to adjust. His instincts told him what was going to happen before it did, but his body couldn't keep up with the unnatural timing. It made his movements awkward, just a fraction too early or too late.

By the time they moved to a scrimmage, Daniel was exhausted from trying to fight his own senses.

Luis jogged up beside him. "You okay, man? You look... distracted."

"Just adjusting," Daniel muttered.

Luis gave him a look but didn't push.

The match began, and Daniel tried to focus. The ball moved fast. Players weaved in and out, passing, sprinting, tackling. But then—his powers kicked in again.

He saw Luis about to receive a pass—and instinctively, Daniel moved before the ball was even sent.

Bad idea.

Sofia's pass went exactly where he thought it would—but he arrived too early, overshooting the movement. Luis barely avoided crashing into him.

"Whoa!" Luis shouted. "What are you doing?"

Daniel shook his head, frustrated. "I—I thought the ball was coming faster."

Coach Navarro blew the whistle. "Carter! Are you playing, or are you seeing ghosts?"

Daniel exhaled sharply. This isn't working.

He had to learn to control his ability—fast.

(Author's Thought)

Daniel's powers are interfering with his football skills, making it hard for him to perform naturally. As he struggles to adapt, will he be able to prove himself to the team? Or will his secret get him benched before he even starts?
