With the final approaching, Daniel tried to focus on training. But the mystery of Elena's message kept pulling at him.
One evening, Sofia found him sitting alone near the football field.
"You're distracted," she said in Catalan.
Daniel hesitated, then decided to tell her part of the truth. "I think... someone is following me."
Sofia frowned. "Following you? Who?"
"I don't know. But I think they've been watching me for a while."
Sofia looked troubled. Then she sighed. "I need to tell you something too. I didn't know how to say it before."
Daniel turned to her, suddenly alert.
"My father... he works for the government. And he told me something strange a few weeks ago. He said they were tracking a foreigner in Igualada, someone who might be in danger. He didn't tell me more, but—" She looked at Daniel. "It has to be you."
Daniel's breath caught. "What?"
"I don't know why," she admitted. "But whatever is happening... you're at the center of it."
