Nowhere is Safe

Daniel sat in the back of the bus, his breath still heavy from the chase. His fingers gripped the metal bar of the seat in front of him as he stared out of the window. The streets of Igualada blurred past, but his thoughts were elsewhere.

They knew where he was.He couldn't ignore it anymore—this wasn't over. The organization he thought he had defeated had sent new hunters. And their leader… the man he thought was dead… was alive. The bus jerked to a stop, and Daniel realized where he was—just a few blocks from Sofia's house. For a second, he hesitated. Was it a good idea to see her now? He was being hunted. He didn't want to drag her into this. But he needed to clear his head.He hopped off the bus and walked towards the familiar apartment building. As he reached the entrance, the door swung open."Daniel?"Sofia stood there, her brown eyes widening in surprise. She was still in her CF Igualada training gear, her dark ponytail slightly messy from practice."What are you doing here?" she asked.Daniel forced a smile. "Just… needed some fresh air."Sofia studied him for a moment. "You look like you just ran a marathon."Daniel hesitated. Should he tell her? They sat on a stone bench near her apartment. The streetlights flickered above them, casting long shadows across the pavement.Sofia nudged his arm. "You don't look okay."Daniel exhaled. "I think… someone is after me again."Sofia's expression darkened. "The same people from before?"He nodded. She frowned. "You need to tell someone. Mateo? The police?"Daniel shook his head. "They won't believe me. And even if they did… these people don't play by normal rules."Sofia stared at him, and for a long moment, neither of them spoke. Then, finally, she said, "Whatever happens, you're not dealing with this alone."Her words settled something in Daniel's chest. He wasn't sure what was coming, but he knew one thing. He had one person he could trust.
