The Return of a Ghost

Daniel took a slow step back, his mind racing. Elias stood before him, very much alive—when he shouldn't be.

"What do you want?" Daniel asked, his voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through his veins.Elias chuckled, shaking his head. "You really don't get it, do you?" His sharp eyes gleamed under the dim streetlights. "You're not just some kid who got lucky and ran away. You're the key to something much bigger."Daniel's chest tightened. "Key to what?"Elias tilted his head, considering him. "Not yet, Carter. You're not ready for that truth."Daniel's hands twitched at his sides. He hated this. The feeling of being played with. Of being left in the dark."I don't care about whatever game you're playing," Daniel said, clenching his fists. "My dad has beaten you before. I can do it again."Elias smirked. "That's what I'm counting on."Before Daniel could react, Elias vanished. Not ran. Vanished.Daniel's pulse thundered in his ears. He spun around, scanning the alley. Nothing.Had he imagined the whole thing? No. Elias was real. And he had just proven that Daniel still had no idea what he was truly up against.Daniel arrived at training earlier than usual. He needed to clear his head, and football was the only thing that kept him grounded."¡Carter! ¡Vamos, hermano!" One of his teammates, Javier, clapped him on the back as he passed. "You're too quiet, man. You still thinking about Madrid's remontada against Man City?"Daniel blinked. "Uh… yeah. Crazy game."Javier laughed. "Bro, they destroyed them. A 3-2 comeback in the last ten minutes! I swear, Bellingham is a magician."Daniel forced a smile. He loved football, but today, his mind wasn't on the sport. He needed to focus—but how could he, knowing Elias was out there?Coach Morales blew his whistle, signaling everyone to gather."Alright, listen up!" Morales barked. "We've got a tournament match this weekend against Cerdanyola del Vallès. I want full intensity in training today. You give me your best, or you're sitting on the bench."Daniel straightened. This was it. His chance to prove himself to the coach again. The team broke off into drills, and as Daniel controlled the ball, something clicked in his mind. For now, he had to focus. If he let the fear take over, he'd lose everything—his spot on the team, his chance at a future, and worst of all…the ability to fight back.Whatever Elias wanted, Daniel would be ready. This time, he wouldn't run.
