Chapter- 19 The Devouring Sword Azphel

A thin tear slithered down Edward's face leaving a trail of liquid leading from his eyes to the bottom of his cheek.

What is my purpose? A question which I asked myself eons ago after I was mercilessly killed by a heartless and loathsome creature who took the form of a human but truly was a heartless monster Zick ' A Loser's Redo: Transmigration In A Novel'

But the past must remain just that—the past… No, it absolutely must stay there.

In my quest for an answer, I found it not within myself, but from an entity known as the system. It's almost laughable; this term refers to an incredibly powerful individual who gains a cheat to dominate their world... I, however, did not share that fortune.

As I glanced down at the ground, a smile crept onto my lips. I closed my eyes and clenched my fists so tightly that my nails broke the skin, blood seeping gently out.

All the power and knowledge I've gathered stemmed from relentless struggles and trivial tasks, all in preparation to confront those monsters known as Main characters, rather than fading into insignificance as mere cannon fodder.

I just wanted to kill them all. Is that really so hard to grasp! After dying so many times from being used I eventually was able to compete with those bastards HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! But what point did it have in the end? Eventually, after slaying thousands of Main Character and Demon kings alike I became numb to it all… I just want to die. Why can't I die? Please tell me, the reader, why must I live… My existence Is meaningless. What's the purpose of being called a hero if no one remembers?

Several seconds pass in the real world. Edward stood idle with clenched fists staring towards the ground only taking one step forward as a sorrowful aura surrounded him.

The glossy milky-white marble floor stained crimson in two distinctive areas.

'But self-pity won't do anything for me would it now, currently I am weak?'

Lifting his gaze he saw Eugene's confused expression.

"Are you okay" Eugene expressed

"Yes, thank you, I merely fell into a trance. Also, there Is no need to act formal around me"

"Why do you say that?" Eugene asked, baffled by the request. 'Well Not so much the request, but rather the fact that one of the children from the direct line asked"

"I tell everyone to speak to me informally, that's why."

"Sure, I guess" Eugene responded with a shrug.

Eugene looked toward the Holy just as extraordinarily beautiful as when he remembered seeing it three hundred years prior. A sword impossible to consider as merely a 'sword' suede for cutting things.

Forged from an unknown metal, the Holy sword 'Altair' lore points out that it was said to be bestowed by God.

Thinking back to the sword 'it's surprising that the holy Empire didn't try to take back the holy sword'

Eugene walked toward the Vaults center and observed the Holy Sword. The sword was encased with a beautiful scabbard and a long hilt best suited to be wielded with both hands. The blade itself wasn't visible, but Eugene clearly remembered just how beautifully and dazzlingly the Holy Sword shone when pulled free of its scabbard.

He had to admit that he wanted it. Such a desire couldn't be helped. After all, this was a sword personally bestowed by a God. The Holy Sword had been sealed in the central temple of the Holy Empire for a long period of time and it had accompanied them on their journey through the Devildom of Helmuth after recognizing Vermouth as its sole owner.

Although Vermouth himself didn't end up using the Holy Sword all that often, this did not diminish the importance and value of the Holy Sword. This beautiful sword had cut down countless demons and had even pierced the heart of the first to be slain from Helmuth's five Demon Kings.

....Although after that, it was almost exclusively used as a torch.'

Edward watched as Eugene tried to pull the Holy Sword embedded deep into the floor, to no avail and soon giving up.

I averted my gaze to appear oblivious as I strolled around the Lionheart Vault, taking in the array of jewels and accessories. Edward, gazing at the vast treasure amassed in the Vault, couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration.

After ten minutes of the two of us marveling at the prestigious Lionheart family's collection, we found riches stacked up as if they were mere pebbles rather than valuable gems, assortments of jewelry and other precious garments and herbs were also scattered around the vault. Ultimately, Edward and Eugene both reached the portion of the Vault that they coveted to explore.

Lined in a linear path levitated six weapons of differing shapes and sizes expressing their own flare. Each weapon was surrounded in a golden ambient light keeping the weapons afloat.

Edward ignoring the presence of any of the other weapons Stood before the most distinctive and oddly shaped one which caught his attention.

'This is Azphel, right?' Edward thought

The unusual sword hovering in front of Edward had a deep crimson colored blade, a maroon colored hilt with a rhombohedron attached to the bottom, the edge of its blade had jagged protrusions that looked like the fangs of a beast. This was the 'Devouring Sword' Azphel. It could devour whatever it cut to increase its own strength.

Sound overpowered yet? Let me continue. At first glance, its actual power seemed difficult to judge, but this sword truly was a broken object. It was a sword that could cut magic, a mana-devouring sword. No matter how powerful the spell was, in front of Azphel, it would be worthless. I thought the only person who should be able to use it was Vermonth, but It shouldn't

Eugene watching Edward, was surprised by his choice of weapon 'he chose Azphel… actually, that's not a bad choice if used correctly' Eugene thought before he saw a red necklace catch his attention.
