Evelyn took a hesitant step toward the mirror, her reflection still reaching out to her. Her heartbeat thundered in her chest as she stared into the desperate eyes of the other version of herself. The moment their fingertips met the cold surface, the mirror cracked, sending a ripple of energy through the chamber.
Lucien grabbed her wrist, pulling her back just as a low hum filled the air. The cracks in the mirror spread, distorting the reflections within. Each fragment flickered, revealing glimpses of alternate realities—some familiar, others terrifyingly foreign.
Dorian chuckled under his breath. "I wouldn't touch that if I were you. The Crossroads of Time is not as forgiving as one might hope."
Evelyn turned to him, her eyes flashing. "You said someone already altered time. Who? And why?"
Dorian's smirk faltered ever so slightly. "That is the question, isn't it?" He stepped forward, tracing a finger along the edge of a nearby mirror. "Time is a fragile thing, and once disrupted, the consequences ripple outward. Some seek to control it, to mold it to their desires. Others..." He trailed off, his expression darkening. "Others simply want to watch it burn."
Elias narrowed his eyes. "And which one are you?"
Dorian met his gaze evenly. "That depends on how this story unfolds."
The air grew thick with tension as a sudden tremor shook the chamber. The mirrors flickered wildly, and one by one, they began to shatter, their shards vanishing into nothingness. A deep voice echoed through the space, low and commanding.
"The hourglass has been turned. You cannot undo what has already begun."
Evelyn felt a chill race down her spine. "Who was that?"
Dorian's expression darkened. "The one who set this all in motion. And it seems they've just made their next move."
Before anyone could react, the chamber tilted violently, and a powerful force pulled them downward. Evelyn barely had time to cry out before she was swallowed by the void once more.
As the darkness consumed them, only one thought remained in her mind:
Time was running out.
