Chapter 84:Mira's POV, then switching to each pair's perspective)
Mira & Lorenzo
The forest blurred around us as we ran, the night thick with shadows. Lorenzo's grip on my hand was tight, but I could feel his strength waning. His wounds hadn't fully healed, and the magic in this land wasn't aiding him like it should have.
I heard it before I saw it—the rustling of leaves, the snapping of branches, the low, guttural snarls surrounding us.
We weren't alone.
Lorenzo slowed, his breath ragged. "Damn it," he muttered, swaying slightly.
I spun to face him, panic rising in my throat. "Lorenzo, don't you dare collapse on me."
A cruel laugh echoed through the trees. My blood turned to ice.
