Tunnels

(Chapter 90:Mira's POV)

The air inside the sanctuary was thick with tension, pressing against my skin like an unseen weight. I could still hear the echo of Lorenzo's voice in my mind.

We know she's here.

The words sent a chill through me. The enemy had found us. Or at least, they wanted us to think they had.

I sat on the edge of the worn mattress, arms wrapped around my knees, trying to steady my thoughts. Lorenzo stood near the fire, his golden eyes flickering with the glow, his expression unreadable. Vincenzo leaned against the wall, absentmindedly twirling a dagger between his fingers. Thorne, silent as ever, was positioned near the door, his body taut like a coiled spring.

"We can't just sit here," Vincenzo muttered, breaking the silence.

"They're waiting for us to make a mistake," Thorne added, arms crossed.

Lorenzo exhaled through his nose. "Then we don't give them one."
