5.Request

"I wish to have a conversation with you" I blurted out after hesitating for over 10 minutes after we've had our meal.

I noticed some slight reaction like a flicker of shock,joy and the urge to keep a mean face all at the same time on my father's face. We have not had a proper conversation like we use to and it has affected our relationship,thanks to my Mother.

" I'm all ears, I hope all is well? and if it's about your punishment,just know I'm not ready to go back on my words.

"No father, it's about the running of the house, I noticed that we don't have enough Helps and considering the age of Mama Dorcs,the chores is too much for only her to handle and you should kindly put out a notice for a house keeper."

"Is Mama Dorcs complaining?"

"No Father,but she need not complain for me to notice that she is the only Help we have at the moment."

"Okay,I will send out a notice for vacancy, any other thing you want us to discuss?"

"Yes Father,I also want to inform you that the washing machine in my room has developed a fault, I have a heap of cloths to wash and I can't seem to turn it on,please I need you to call the repairman.

"In the meantime you should handle the washing of your cloths with your hands,count it in as part of your punishment" This statement erupted some shock in me as my Father would never allow me to even lift a pin off the floor.

I fought the urge to cry and just nodded my head in agreement.

"Is that all?"

"No....yes Father"

"Okay, on that note you should be heading back to your room"

"Goodnight Father"

I rushed to my room,closed the door behind me and sprawled on the bed,with the throw pillow covering my mouth, I let out a loud shout in order to suppress the tears that is about to form in my eyes.

I got up from the bed, carefully removed my red hair pin, then went ahead to remove the blue gown I was putting on.

I laid back on my bed and pondered on the events that has taken place for the past 5 days ,and concluded that maybe I overreacted,but then a tiny voice still insisted that I did the right thing by challenging my Mother,it also reminded me that I'm about blossoming into an adult and if I continue letting her have her way over me, I might end up unhappy and frustrated. And with that I slept off.
